2010 4th of July fireworks

Here are some photos and videos of the show my buddy and I did for the 4th this year. Actually it was the saturday before the 4th so everyone can go out and do what they want for the 4th. It was a decent sized show, it lasted 24 minutes. Every single item was made by us, lift, stars, break, falls.... We did cheat a bit and used some 1/4" stars from work for the small 1-7/8" shells... We built 300 of those damn things and I wasn't about to press stars at home for those!! Also, we did have about 50 additional regular consumer shells in there too. For filler we purchased 13 500 gram cakes. Every item was ematched and the entire show was electrically fired. Our larger shells were fired with a professional firing system which was bad ass!

It took us about 4 months to make everything. We worked almost every weekend, and towards the end after work on some days as well. We milled (400 grams at a time) pressed and corned about 7600 grams of BP and ended up with approximately 4300 grams of 2fa sized material -6+12. Towards the end we ran out of rice hulls and started coating rice crispies cereal for break!

We had about $2000 worth of regular 1.4G given to us by the owner of where I work at.... all the pics of the rockets, little cakes, fountians, candles and the like. This was all passed out to the people about 2 hours before the show so everyone can just sit and drink beer, light fireworks and have a good time!! Everytime we would come out with a new load, the previous one still wasn't used up... In the end, with about 20 people igniting them, they were all used!

I believe the main part of the show was:

12 4" mines (intro)

12 45 foot 1 second gerbs (intro)

5- 1 gallon liquid fireballs (intro)

55 or so 30 second waterfall sticks (intro)

5" 1700 gram (total weight) salute (intro)

38 4" shells

24 6" shell

300 1-7/8" shells

12 1lb salute rockets

24 2" can shells

and the 50 consumer shells

I included a video of the intro, the waterfall, then I just grabbed a few shots of the larger shells, then the end of the finale.

Here is a video of a test of the fireball 80% gas 20% diesel, This was about 3/4 of a gallon. It was lifted by 50 grams of lift in a sealed 2" plastic can. In the show all 6 mortars had 1 gallon each.

Al, if you'd like to put the video here, bandwidth/space isn't a problem on my server.

Just PM me a link where I can retrieve it and I'll import it into the Downloads section, no problem.

Or you can upload it on pyrobin or rapidshare..

Al stop teasing us! Upload the whole thing!

All of those looked amazing, it must have been a ton of work, how many people worked on the show total?

It was just my Buddy and I... thats it. Well my wife did build 2 shells. She also made the sign and helped with complete support, She parked everyone who showed up as well! She also filmed the entire thing, including the past 3 years of filming the shows!

The USA sign was not readable in the camera, because it was never zoomed in. Buit it was cool in person. They are blue AP flares with 100 mesh titanium, a burn time of 55 seconds.

The larger shells were fired periodically through the show, but at one point thats all we ignited, one at a time. 4 and 6 inch shells. I think around 14 minutes into the show.

I cut off the very beggining with the waterfall to make it under the 128MB limit here.... so thats the beggining, then this:

A few more pics.... also, my buddy's father is the town firemarshall, so we had a fire engine and a team sitting there for fire suppression if need be. In the last 3 years, we have not needed them once, but I must tell you what a sigh of relief it is to have them there!

Some methylene chloride evaporating in a watch glass.... It was cold enough to freeze the moisture in the air!

LOL... when I set the 128 MB limit for Uploads, I never dreamed we'd hit it. Looks like I'll have to play with the server settings. ;)

Thanks, Al!

EDIT: And done. New max upload limit is 256 MB.
