AdmiralDonSnider Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) Do you know the problem of strawboard hemispheres coming deformed (slightly oval instead of round) or showing only fair uniformity? Or do I just have a bad supplier? Of the 20 sets 3" hemis I´ve recently bought, only about 4 sets seemed to match well; the otherscalled for fiddling, trial, hand pressure etc. and even then only ended in hardly uniform spheres. I hope this does not apply for all strawboard hemis around, otherwise I´ll have to switch to plastics or homemade hemis. Edited May 27, 2010 by AdmiralDonSnider
dagabu Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Don, You probably have a good supplier, almost all hemis come deformed. There are a lot of ways to make them round again but most of the time the people that use them just take two oval hemis and turn them so that they don't nest and place a weight on them to get them to round out again. Others use rubber bands wrapped around the hemi where the most oval is and try to bring them in. They almost all warp in the shipping containers, they were round when they left.
AdmiralDonSnider Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 Yes, but mine seem to remain incompatible (also in terms of slight diameter differences) even when made round again using hand pressure. It´s really annoying to work with that stuff.
dagabu Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Sorry Don, I went to Hand Made canisters so hemis are not my bag anymore but I feel your pain. Can you post the question over in Passfire?
Bonny Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 You can also put them on a ball and hold in place with rubber bands. You can stack a few up this way... works for me.
FREAKYDUTCHMEN Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Store them stacked. If they are too dry they also tend to be more oval than round. Remember it's a natural product and they are made with glue and the water in it evaporates. Storing them in a bit humid place should work. Maybe a combination of stacking and a humid storage works best. I never do any of this, I just use them and when I clap both parts together. After taping the parts together I always get a nice round shell with an equator which is hard to see. It's more a part of getting skilled than having bad materials I think.
