madmax247 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I came across some old family video of a firework display in Italy from a few years ago and i was wondering what is the exact effect name that the stars create? Are those dragons eggs that are being used? I notices that the crackling time is far longer than usual dragons eggs shell, possibly due to variations in size? http://pyrobin.com/files/crackling finale.mpg
madmax247 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Looking closely again and again, from what i can tell it looks like a variant of D1 glitter as the main star components. There are the blue stars in the middle, accompanied by the thick d1 glitter and lots of different mesh dragons eggs. Am i correct in saying this?
Mumbles Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Those look like flitter stars with some crackling pistils every so often. I know people are going to say titanium, but if you watch carefully you can see the sparks start white and turn yellow and occasionally somewhat blue, which is generally indicative of aluminum flake.
madmax247 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the detailed reply! Bright flake aluminium? And how on earth do you make crackling pistil? Ive only head of dragons eggs to produce a crackling sound. Would it also be useful to upload a higher quality sample? Edited May 25, 2010 by madmax247
FREAKYDUTCHMEN Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) Thats the Sakura effect or crackling chrys. A 2mm dragon egg core (rolled) with a slag forming ti containing thick prime. Edited May 25, 2010 by FREAKYDUTCHMEN
Mumbles Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 For a crackling pistil, just fill an inner petal or pistil with well primed dragon eggs. Some dark comp, relay, or better yet star comp over the top will give some delay.
madmax247 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Thanks for your help! What size shell do you think that was?
AdmiralDonSnider Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) Sorry guys, but isn´t it possible that this was just plain coarse magnalium with an egg pistil? Edited May 27, 2010 by AdmiralDonSnider
Mumbles Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I've never seen that effect, but I've heard it referenced or suggested. Similar to what Freakydutchman was talking about, just with coarse MgAl instead of Ti. Someday someone will try it out hopefully.
AdmiralDonSnider Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Just though so because coarse MgAl sizzles like small eggs when contained in a comp.
