swervedriver Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Hi. I have a fellow who can't speak english well that's asking for some help with fixing his whistle rocket catos. My very limited knowledge can't help, so I told him I'd ask for some help here. I'll just post his question and pictures, I don't speak Vietnamese, which I believe he is. Not sure what the "lid" part is all about. Any suggestions by looking at his pictures? or if I should ask him for more info, maybe something specific regarding fuel, motor tube construction/thickness or tooling dimensions? Thanks- "well,My whistle rockets, 12cm long, 3.2 cm in diameter, inside diameter is 1 cm, 4 cm deep drilling, I've tried the lid on and still explode.picture : whistle rocket:"
Gunzway Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 If you like, I have some Vietnamese friends and I might be able to get them to translate whatever he says into a more understandable English.
swervedriver Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 Thanks Gunzway. From what I can see in the pics it looks like he's using a press, but the fuel looks like it could be mixed more homogenously before pressing. Can poorly mixed whistle fuel cause catos? I was leaning towards the cases failing but just a guess, those look pretty thick even if hand rolled...
TrueBluePyro Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) They look hand rolled, I don't have a lot/no experience with whistle, but maybe his core is too long? or maybe the ID of the hole is too small? just some suggestions. edit: also i think 'lid' means the bulk head? psyco_1322 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I'm curious if your friend ever go his rockets flying? It's not the core, the core is fine, if anything it's a little under powering. The problem most likely resides in the hand rolled casing. Hand rolled casing are usable, but must be quality product of patience. The case shouldn't have nay bubble from air or crinkled paper between the layers. A good glue such as full strength Elmer's is good to use, nothing diluted or things like spray adhesive. Another problem might be the pressing of the rocket. Make sure you are pressing to the correct pressure and that you have a well fitting sleeve that holds it all in. Lines on the case from the paper trying to press out of the sleeve are weak spots. If necessary, you could dip the tubes in diluted epoxy to increase the strength.
swervedriver Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Ok, I'm sending him the advice. thanks. I think he was actually here posting on another thread saying he was ramming them(!). ttl
