frosty90 Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hi all, So from a pyro perspective, many of us are short on money, materials and time, what to do? Enter the world of miniatures! has anyone here built something tiny? (fully operational, miniature versions of the normal sized stuff). Perhaps we should have a competition, build the smallest shell or rocket. heres my contribution; The stick is a tooth pick. The core is 1.5mm. The grain is 6mm x 15mm. I spent 3 hours perfecting the design. The fuse is sellotape with black powder. Can some one get it smaller? (or a shell, or a super mini cake, etc). http://www.flickr.co...N05/4426071195/http://www.flickr.co...N05/4426836934/ After it left the video frame, it flew to a hight of 1m, turned exactly 90 degrees, flew right at me, missed, and continued on horizontally for about 10m. You can hear it flying off into the sunset in the video. Needs a header of some sort..... Jesse
Ralph Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 a header ? mabey not such a good idea if its flight ended right near your face
PoorBoy Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 i remember making match stick rockets as a kid it requires a a paper match out of one of those paper match books and a safety pin or some small needle and a small triangle of aluminum foil. You hold the needle aginst the match stickso that the point touches the match head and you wrap the match head with the triangle of foil. the way this works is the lighter you make it the farther it flies meaning use al little tinfoil as possible. when you slide the needle out along the body it leaves behind a narrow exaust port or nozzel. to launch it you let it hang on the end of the needle by the exaust port and you hold a lighter to the foil. the foil heats up igniting the match head pushing the directed gasses out the tunnel made by the needle along the body of the match and propels itself. Another thing, what about a miniature comet? I had a hairspray powered spitball shooter i made as a kid. It was made with a medicine bottle a bic pen and a grill igniter. the medicine bottle was the chamber and the pen was the barrel after i cut both ends of and drilled a hole in the bottom of the medicine bottle and the pen in. i used insulated wires as the electrodes. it would be easy to make a miniature comet that would fit in the pen but the question is what comp would be sensitive enough to be lit by the hairspray flame?
Mumbles Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 You know that miniature comets are also called stars, right?
PoorBoy Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 You know that miniature comets are also called stars, right? caught me there lol but a mini comet gun sounds like i really made something smaller than if i call it a mini star gun.
r1dermon Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 you need a longer stick if it's flying erradically. it's unstable.
