FrankRizzo Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 So its coming up to that time again... you know the most favored 7/4... at least in the U.S. :-) Its time I start planning some things, seeing as how thats also going to be my wedding day :-D My question here is one I posted earlier no one seemed to have an answer for. I'm looking for a red Rocket composition that uses Strontium Carbonate instead of Strontium Nitrate, for possible safety reasons as well as availability of SrCO3 vs Sr(NO3)2 I don't believe that's feasible. Carbonates steal energy from the fuel/oxidizer reaction, and will cool the exhaust gasses. A better idea would be to use a large comet attached to a more traditional BP rocket motor.

I'll probly make some of those in conjunction with some other tests. A red comet attached wouldn't be near as impressive. ;-)
FrankRizzo Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 With the right sized comet attached, you might be surprised! Typically the comet is attached to the top of the motor, and quickmatched to the fuse. Just prior to motor ignition, the comet is ignited, and you get the comet effect for the as long as it burns. It's a neat way to give impressive tails with simple motor designs. Ned Gorski (Bluegrass, WPAG, etc.) wrote a nice article for Skylighter on using comets as ascending effects here: http://skylighter.com/skylighter_info_page...sp?Item=137#art
