Brandon Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Hope this is the right section i wasn't sure if I should post this in the newbie section since I am new. I just have a quick question for you guys, if i were to store flash salutes from now until the 4th of july would that be a safe move. I have always stored shells on a magazine and they have been just fine but then again they are also not full of flash powder. The salutes would be stored in a box in my garage which is air conditoned at about 70 degrees all the time. I usally make them only a few days before the 4th but this year i got bored and assembled them a little early. Thanks Alot Brandon
aquaman Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Just store them like any other pyrotechnic device and you should be fine. That is keep in a safe cool place away from sparks/flame and if you have any younger brothers or sisters that like to play with things, hide them from them. From what you have said you should be fine to store them in your garage.
Brandon Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Ok, Thanks alot just wanted a second opionin on it. Better safe than sorry! Thanks again
TheSidewinder Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 You said you store shells in a magazine, but DON'T want to put your flash-loaded shells in one? Ummm... makes no sense to me. If you want to be safe rather than sorry, get those salutes in that magazine, too. A garage may be environmentally OK, but it is NOT a safe place to store such devices, be they finished in a shell or just at the "insert" stage. I hope you can see why. If for some reason they exploded in your garage, you can bet you'd be seeing the inside of a jail cell. And god forbid if someone got injured. Their lawyers would have a field day with you. If they went off in a Federally permitted magazine (the only kind there really IS), at least you wouldn't be facing criminal charges as long as the magazine logs were properly kept and the devices properly stored. You might have some explaining to do, but otherwise you'd be in the clear. Think twice please..... M
Mumbles Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Well, unless it was a type 1 magazine (maybe type 2), it would even be illegal to store them in there. Still, it'd be safer to have them in an insufficient magazine than a box in the garage. At least a magazine has a decent distance.
Yankie Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am considering using a magazine to store my shells and stuff. I am a bit short on cash and was wondering if its possible to make your own. I am not really familiar with a magazine so a bit of info would be appreciated too. Thanks
Mumbles Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Yes, most magazines are made actually. However, they're not one of those things you can make while short on cash. They are a significant time, design, and financial investment. http://www.atf.gov/explarson/fedexplolaw/2...ition/index.htm Subpart K has the construction details.
Gunzway Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Yankie, you may also want to ask some questions or read about the sort of "storage" Australia accepts. It would be a pain in the ass if the storage you have is not qualified for storage in Australia if one day you want to get licensed. I'm sure it may not be much different at all, so it would not be a problem and it could be used for future uses. So best to have something which qualifies under Australian law.
