Miech Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 They are dragon eggs with some titanium in it. That's what creates the effect.
lokys Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) do you know full composition of this effect? I'm useing: Pb3O4................................81.8Mgal (200 Mesh)..................9.1CuO...................................9.1NC.....................................10% How much need to add titanium in 100% mass of Dragon eggs ? And what Ti mesh need ? Edited December 28, 2009 by lokys
lokys Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) So ? nobody knows how to do this effect ? Edited December 29, 2009 by lokys
Mumbles Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 They told you. It's a dragon egg with added Titanium. Without working in industry, very few will know the actual formulas, so you'll have to do some experimentation on your own.
firetech Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 That must be pretty fine Ti. Ventsi should try this out with his dark Ti.
Miech Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Dark titanium might even be too fine already. Somewhere in the -120 +200# range would be a good starting point. On 100 parts of composition I would think of +5% titanium. More will soften the sound, less will will give you less effect. Keep in mind the dragon eggs in such large shells probably are bigger than the what we use, so probably they use a different base composition. The composition above shouldn't me made in larger chunks than about 3 mm or they will not fully explode.
Mumbles Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I wouldn't think the shells are much bigger than 6 or 8" given what break later (presumably 12"). The inner petal will still probably be no bigger than 3/8". The japanese tend to use larger numbers of smaller stars to keep the pattern tight and round. 2-3mm probably is appropriate for cores. I'd agree with the 5%, and that the -325 mesh Ti is probably too small, possibly to the point it would kill the effect. Although larger eggs may actually enhance this effect. Larger eggs still explode, just not in one piece. They break off chunks which then explode on their own. Given the sizzling, I wouldn't be surprised to hear they use coarse MgAl or coarse Ti -40 mesh or so.
