The shell breaks worked great ! All my shells broke perfectly. The spolettes were long timed though. It seemed mostly a paper issue. I made a compilation video here :

The shells of NYE are fired at 02:50

So remember guys! The paper plays a big role as well. A shell containing unprimed stars pasted with the thinner paper broke well. The other shell with the thick paper broke blind with the same stars. I also found the paper debris of the broken shells. The successful ones had much smaller pieces.

From now on, I'm priming all my stars! :)

In the future, I'd like to test a 3" shell broken with hot H3 and good primed stars.

Nice shells 50AE, glad to see that you got them working! keep up the good work.

By the way, what formula did you use for the stars in the blue mine? That was a really nice blue!

I also got my 2" round shells working, it was a priming issue afterall. I primed the D1 glitter with BP with +10% fine flake Al +10% woodmeal +5% dextrin. I tested the better primed stars from a stargun and found I could use twice the amount of lift, compared to the stars that were primed with a bp type prime, and still achieve ignition. They can really take a hefty lift.

I have posted the video in the aerial shell compertition section.

Thanks, JamesH

The blue in the mine was Shimizu chlorate blue binded with SGRS. I've made it with dextrin later and what I understood, is that dextrin washes the blue color.

I've made a second chlorate blue which is a very good lactose based formula, but I've also used dextrin there and the color was washed as well.

ralph, I uploaded the video on pyrobin :

What kind of glitter did you use for the comet on 3:50? Its kind of pinkish.

Oh no, that was a misfix in the white balance of my camcoder. :D

Very nice ! May I ask you what composition did you use for the shell at 2:57 ?
Posted
Of course. The composition is Winokur 11.

It's a good idea to prime all your stars. I think if you use hot H3 as burst a really good prime is needed, I had a lot of blind stars using H3, but I was also a noob at the time, so I was having all kinds of problems.

Great video, lots of nice work there.

The blue mine looked great. I'll have to try that comp. Cut stars? How big were they?

IIRC, the stars were 6mm squares. Remember - dextrin washes the color. I made them for a second time, and the blue color was poor.
