Hardwood charcoal for Streamers?

I have a 4 inch mortar and pestle on it's way to make decent lift(and to grind other things, everything will be ground separately) and I want to make charcoal streamers since they are simple and relatively safe.

I have access to a few species of local dead and dry hardwoods,

can I make charcoal with them for streamers(I've read about making charcoal)

then vary the specie and particle size of the charcoal to control the streamers properties ?

I'm assuming I can but I wanted to ask

Yes, hardwood charcoal is generally preferred for streamers.

 

Skylighter's airfloat is mixed hardwoods.

 

If you want to save money, making your own would be the way to go.

 

But with respect to a mortar and pestle, it's not a substitute for a ball mill. Or even a decent rock-tumbler-turned-ballmill.

yeah if you can get juniper it creates a most beautiful long lasting tail us aussies like to use malle also

Would it be decent enough to make some lift ?

I don't mind using more BP to lift since I'm only going to be

using around 7 pounds of chemicals total for New Years.

Labor isn't an issue(well toa reasonable point) really since I have some time around that part of the year/

 

The idea with making my own charcoal for streamers is to save money since shipping isn't cheap, I'll read some threads since I don't want to mess up.

 

 

I know juniper is here but I'm not sure if I can get some of it,

I might have to just mess around with what I can find.

I doubt you'd be able to make acceptable lift even with Willow, let alone a hardwood.

 

If you're using only 7 pounds of chems in total, personally I'd just buy however much commercial 2Fg you'd need.

If you go to your local BBQ shop, you can pick up a bag of hardwood charcoal for a very minimal price and it's going to save you the effort. I agree with TheSidewinder, I would purchase some 2Fg and just use that for the night.

I have no idea how I'd be able to get it,

I'm 17 plus and I don't think many people/stores would be selling BP for guns around here.

I'm pretty responsible and cautious, and want to confirm that this is what I should do to build a ball mill.

Would these be appropriate for a 5 inch diameter ball mill drum ?

I need enough to fill the drum halfway full of media,

so Id need more than 10 balls

Can I use PVC for my drum if I never mill more then one chemical at a time because of ESD ?
