Well theres not much time to prepare. You've only had about a year to get started. :P

I wish that I was home for NYE and that I wasn't working on college apps all through winter break...

All I have is two 3" shells, which I don't even get to use on NYE... One is completed (a canister with 6 salute inserts, being stupid I forgot to put in stars as well <_< ) the other unpasted (a ball shell with cut D1 stars, which will probably end up looking more like a Chrysanthemum or something - I used too much water and forgot to use boric acid. )

boric acid wont help in D1 because it will be instantly neutralised

I have 27 3" shells pasted, and 7 of them fused and lifted. I also have a wheel with 2 8oz rockets on it that should have a few effects with it. I will have a few founains as well. Once Im finished I want to have 40 3" shells, but i'll be happy to get to at least 30 or something.

Not it wont. Boric acid isn't strong enough to protonate bicarbonate, thus no neutralization.

protonate

I have no idea what this means but I am going to use it on NYE and see what response I get. Protonate, protonate, hmmm, kind of rolls off the tongue. ;)

It is quite a nice word, meaning to donate a proton, i.e a hydrogen atom minus its electron.

Yes. A proton is a part of matter. Protonate is the donation of a proton. You might remember protons, neutrons, and electons from somewhere. Normal hydrogen, the simplest element has 1 proton and 1 electron. A hydrogen ion, H+ is simply a proton. It is also what causes acidity in some of the oldest models. You probably have heard of pH, a measure of acid or base, right? pH is based off of the concentration of this ion, H+.

In this case, protonation is adding the hydrogen ion to the base to create the acid. HCO3- (bicarbonate, like in baking soda), would be turned into H2CO3 (carbonic acid). Carbonic acid is what forms from dissolving CO2 into water, or beer, or soda as you may prefer. If you've ever had carbonated water, you might notice it tastes kind of sharper, tarter than normal water. Acids are tart or sour. As you may be familiar with soda or beer or other carbonated beverages, they go flat over time. This is because at atmospheric pressure, much of the H2CO3 turns into CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O (water). If you have ever mixed vinegar and baking soda, you will notice excessive foaming. Vinegar (acetic acid) protonates the bicarbonate ion into H2CO3 which rapidly decomposes. Boric acid is not strong enough to do it. If you mix baking soda and boric acid, it will not fizz or foam.

Thanks for the lesson Mumbles. That was actually pretty informing.

HEY! Wait one blasted moment here, in young Einstein it was proven that a nuclear explosion created the bubbles in beer! ...Or rock and roll, whatever.

Here's some pictures of my stash for NYE... I would have pasted some paper shells but not only did I not have any paper hemis, but I didn't have the time either. Not as big and as nice as some of your stashes, but oh well they work nicely :) I might also shoot off some commercial stuff as well... We'll see how it goes. ;)

I am so jealous. you guys have some really nice shells ready to go. This is all I managed to do:

I caught some filthy coyote sniffing around my stash. A single shot from my AR-15 put him down. Good thing, as several poodles and cats have been eaten in the neighborhood lately.

Seriously, Happy New Year, and stay safe.

Well I was going to fire something for myself but the phone rang so I'm going to play at someone elses expense! Why do customers wait til the day to confirm they want a show that night?

Blowtorch and hard hat in a bag and I shall catch the train to a show! Good job there's a night bus back! It's lunacy driving through London tonight!

Happy New Year...my small contribution. 3/8 inch stars. My first 4 inch round shell. D1, ruby red, emerald green, and organic blue. Emerald green for some reason did not withstand the break. Broken with BP on grass seed. No booster. 316 grams, with 23 grams lift. I think I can tone down my lift a little. Enjoy.

Ahhhh! I'm jealous of all you guys. I'm sitting here hundreds of miles from my pyro, and every 20 seconds I hear a loud bang. I can't wait to get home and make something to show up all these fools who BUY their fireworks :D

And to make matters worse, all of my friends at home are having a bonfire and setting off fireworks! Gah! I miss them... :(

Happy new year everyone. Hope your's was as good as mine, i've got a massive headache and i'm half deaf, awesome,a good measurment if your display was a success ^_^

Happy New Year! Turns out the weather was very favorable. Storm passed through and the wind died down and that meant the risk of a fire was practically non-existent. End of the night was a bit bad when the wind did affect a salute rocket, no harm done but scared the shit out of me. Nothing beats hand firing and loading shells in the last few minutes of 2009 with friends screaming like maniacs running with you just for an adrenaline rush. It's definitely an experience that I won't forget. A few flower pots early in the night, but seemed to fix that with some minor fixing. I might have the results to show but many people dodged me out and didn't record as they were either too drunk to or didn't want to watch it through a camera.

Hope everyone else had a safe and fun New Years as well.

Hope everyone has a wonderful year coming and that last year was too! The last one I must say I truly enjoyed :)

Happy new year, everybody.

I had a great time shooting my stuff and decided that next time I'm going electric, dam the time it takes to reset everything to fire again. I'm out, tube scavenging is next on the agenda.

After my show, a five year old boy came up to me and asked if I made all my firework.

When I said yes, the kid replied:

-I love you. :D :D :D

My daughter came up to me as I was packing up and said:

- Daddy, you made so beautiful colours in the sky. That made my heart melt, and the pasting was worth every second because of that.
