Aimlesspayload Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, where do you guys shoot? How'd you find the place? Legal or not? Just curious. Edited November 12, 2009 by Aimlesspayload
Mumbles Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I generally only shoot at club events anymore. It's big open and safe. Despite some gray transportation areas, it's legal. I can get away with some small stuff at my grandparents' on major firework holidays and stuff like that. I used to test in a dog park outside of town. Again, it is big and open, and no one is there after dark.
TheEskimo Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I shoot off at my place. It is a 20 acre farm in rural PA. It's great to shoot off behind the pond, especially with mines, because of the reflection.
Aimlesspayload Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 I used to shoot freely at my house (basically at a cul de sac). Sadly, I tested the limits of what I could fire and to make a scary story short, I can't do that anymore. I now go into a clearing about a half mile into the woods on days that it has rained, but I'm very apprehensive about the spot so I've stopped going there. I'm running out of spots.

Club shoots for anything that can land me in jail, testing I just blame the Model Rocketry motor for any noise or the occasional CATO. D
scarbelly Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 The beach, it's like a 3 minute drive from my home. It's close, it's safe (you can't set sand or the ocean on fire), at night it's pretty secluded, and we have thousands so if there's something wrong with one beach one night (like the cops are posted there for example) , I can pick from a number of other nearby beaches. The only problems are that it can get really windy on the beach, and that they're pretty close to the highways (viewing range, not close enough to be in danger of hitting vehicles). Sorry for my sudden fixation on parentheses
Gunzway Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 The beach, it's literally a short walk from my house. As said prior, you can't set sand on fire. I sometimes fire on a river, but it's surrounded with houses and there are bushes and shrubs on the other side. I shoot there on new years eve as noone cares despite it being illegal, many illegal fireworks are fired on the night and the nights leading to December (starting to happen more frequently now).
Ralph Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I have the best shoot site almost next door it is under 1 min walk from my house huge open expanse were I used to launch stuff but its to close to home and police will bust me if I use it
50AE Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I shoot at an abandoned construction site, which looks like a digged forest with trees and mud. When you go deep inside, no one can see you. There are trees everywhere.
scarbelly Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 There are trees everywhere. That sounds like a recipe for disaster... Or are they far enough away that they are no fire hazard whatsoever?

scarbelly Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Be my guest! By "my" shoot site, do you mean the beaches in my neck of the woods or just beaches in general? The nice thing about being so close is that I can go down whenever I want to test something, and not just for final products. At the moment most of what I make is a "test" because I don't put enough trust in my skills yet, so this is very useful.
Twotails Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Theres a graveyard right next to me, i launch all things that are too big for my back yard there. people allways do it on my block(despite it being illigal) i've started, and finished a few black battles(a few houses shoot of fireworks, it goes from small scale to large, untill someone(normely me) launches a finisher shell/set of mines/something that they couldent compeat with. Works great, run out to the middle of the graveyard, put a Long delay fuse on it, run back, worse case scinario the old lady down the street calls us, tells us someones fireing stuff off in the grave yard, we blame it on "Kids".
Ventsi Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) Be my guest! By "my" shoot site, do you mean the beaches in my neck of the woods or just beaches in general? Yeah, probably your area if anything.Hmm, perhaps a small "shoot off'' is in order. Edited November 13, 2009 by Ventsi

HAHA blame it on the "kids", Anyway I have a street that dead ends. Goes from my house for about 1-mile into a huge feild with nothing but dirt for a mile radius all around, though it is too open and if a cop is close enough to see....Uh Oh.
scarbelly Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Yeah, probably your area if anything.Hmm, perhaps a small "shoot off'' is in order. Haha I'm down. That would be fun to do.
lostfido Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Up at the lake. Plenty of room to shoot over the lake with no interference. Its also a great place to test things so I won't look like a complete idiot at the club shoots.
50AE Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 That sounds like a recipe for disaster... Or are they far enough away that they are no fire hazard whatsoever? They are far away. They make a circle around us, so we're not visible. About the fire question, we shoot there only during the winter or after rain.
ActionTekJackson Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Some of you say you shoot at club events? My question is how do you find these club events, and how do you qualify to shoot at them? What if you're stuck in podunk Idaho where apparently there are no pyrotechnic clubs (according to google anyway...)
OneEyeCharlie Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Like Scarbelly and Gunzaway, I shoot at the beach. Just a short walk from my house, deserted so I don't look like a chump when things fail spectacularly, and prevailing winds and currents keep everything away from Mumbles/Sidewinder/LostFido/Dagabu

Mumbles Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 The PGI website has a pretty extensive list. There is one in Washington state, and one in oregon, but I don't know much about either. The president of the NWPAA registered here at one point, but I never saw him post.
