Updup Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Hey everyone, as its X-mas if right around the corner I wanted to make my family each a pyrotechnic related gift. My sister loves music, so I was thinking about making a little package where she lights the fuse and makes a fiery treble clef (or just a music note to make thing simple), any ideas on how this would be possible ? I was thinking I could make a tub in the right shape and fill it with alcohol or acetone, but they would both evaporate ]= is their anyway I can make a solid "Wax" type substance that would last? For my mom I was planning on doing a pinwheel , and that shouldn't be too hard. As far as my dad goes, I need ideas, something that makes good effect in a small package. Your help is appreciated!
homebrewed77 Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Dont know what x-mas is...But Christmas is comming up..Why cant you just do a small pyro show? Atleast it's something you put some work into..It's easy going to the store and buying something..

Twotails Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 make a lance peice in the shape of said note.
Updup Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 make a lance peice in the shape of said note. You'll have to explain more because i really dont know what you mean.
mike_au Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 A lance piece is where you make a whole heap of lances (relatively slow burning coloured comps in a thin paper tube) and attach them to a frame in a certain shape. Do a search on youtube, I was watching a "Happy New Year" one the other day that worked fairly well.
Ralph Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) X-mas is not Christmas the difference between them is Christmas makes you think about Christ and therefore makes some people uncomfortable X-mas simply means spend money there is a huge difference with out Christ there is no reason to be celebrating. Personally I dont see giving people pyro gifts as a good idea unless they particularly like pyro. I think its a bit cheap to be honest ( every one was thinking it no one had the balls to say it). If your sister loves music than buy her that new piano book she really wants or a CD by her favourite artist she will appreciate it far more cause it shows more thought and will last. KruseMissile Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 yeah, pyro lasts seconds and with alot of work, minutes.
Mumbles Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I have to agree. While something homemade may fly when you're 6, it doesn't as much in your teens or older. You might want to get them a more traditional gift in addition to what you're planning. I find it more productive to get them something kind of related such as candles, etc if appropriate. I did this thing last year where I made a few gifts shaped like fireworks with a fake fuse in them. It works a little better because I've been into this for the better part of a decade so my obsession is well established within the family. This is what I got my mom last year. http://www.pyrobin.com/files/dsc_0155.jpg
firetech Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 That looks oddly familiar to what I gave my sister last year... Might just be the similar wrapping technique though.
Skycastlefish Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 That is the same way I wrap my wine up. Red wine that is. I use butcher string for white. I've never given a pyro creation as a tangible gift, though as an accent it would be awesome. I recommend something simple. What are your family members favorite colors? Maybe you could make a fountain, a star mine for the blue lovers, and some colored alcohol for the green lovers. If my sister made a huge smoke generator for my b-day I'd be thrilled! Oh, yea, other people are not like us... so you should maybe get them a real gift too.
Ericz Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 wtf -->?X-mas is not Christmas the difference between them is Christmas makes you think about Christ and therefore makes some people uncomfortable X-mas simply means spend money there is a huge difference with out Christ there is no reason to be celebrating. Most people i know just celebrate it but not for christ ? I not even belive in him or any god :S Its make me sick all the believings in nothing ? Ever saw something iam not gonna change my life for a 2000 old year book :S Cant stand people who even talk about god or christ or allah or budda its all 1 big bull**** better stop believe and fix the wars who are now a problem stupid whining about some city jeruzalem ? Its a fricken ugly city what do you have to do there :S? I respect if u believe in something but just keep it for yourself dont do it in public thats why people argument nooo its not true allah is better or what ever its make me sick stupid war over nothing.
Updup Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 Lots of good ideas, perhapes the favorite color/fountain thing would work (if i had accses to color comps). Also i just thought X-mas was a "slang" way of saying it, i didn't mean to offend anybody, my name is Christian =P. Ericz: Your making a war (small as it may be) about, what you call "nothing", just dont argue, okay? Okay, and just so everyone knows, i'm getting my family each a normal gift, a stocking stuffer, and a pyrotechnic gift =P. Mumbles thats a good idea, but even if i dressed some chocolate at a Black Cat i dont think my mom and sister would know what that is =/. Do anyone you guys know of a BP type comp that would burn... slowly?
Ralph Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 chrysanthemum of mystery is slow what i hate about anti religion people is they religiously fight religion one of my good friends is like this. to be honest i would prefer to see the pope , the dalih lama and ossama bin ladin (ok sorry poor taste i know) on tv than hear your constant winging. you only don't like religion because it accuses you, your smart enough to realise that the world is far to intricate and complex to have happened by chance but accepting a creator means accepting a greater accountability and that skrews you over because your happy the way it is only having to avoid the government and the thoughts of your friends. anyway if you want people to be quite about religion the simplest thing to do is not to slap your equally religious views in their face
scarbelly Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 It's probably better that we don't get in an argument around religion. It could turn pretty intense and angry.
Mumbles Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Yes guys cut out the religious arguing. It was started over nothing. Well arguing requires a member of both sides of the subject, this is just bitching and moaning. Also people may take you more seriously if you weren't border line illiterate.
Arthur Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Christmas gifts should be thoughtful and memorable and should connect with the style or likes of the recipient. I really like the idea of making the parcel like a firework but making the present a firework is not even thinking about the recipient. Actually a retail firework is a cheap disposable piece of trash -is that all you think of the people to whom you give presents?

Pick a different fight, this one will not fly with me. Seriously, apologize and let it go. I am just as you are constitutionally protected to have my own faith and I don't care who in the world knows it. Step back and honor all of us in our glorious diversity as we overcome the odds and make a community out of a hobby we all love. Sorry to disagree with you but as a Vet, I see war as the result of arrogance and greed. Religion is only the flag one wraps around ones self to convince them that it is justified. Yes, we have strayed but the good people of the USA will one day rise and take this country from the hateful, greedy and arrogant. /rant Oh, have a great night everyone!Stay Green

EarlRausch Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 UpDUpwow you asked a simple question and everybody jumps on your post. I think your idea is a great idea. It is just something that will show your family what you are passionate about . And be a bit of fun for everybody,I have a large family and what I do is on Xmas eve (X from the Greek word Χριστός meaning Christ and has been used for hundreds of years and has been abbreviated to X to shorten the word and not to take Christ out of the definition X is frowned upon for the reason that was posted earlier ) Is I put on a show for the family and will make things that I think represent what that person is into, My sister has red hair so I do a nice red fountain for her one year she wore her hair in braids and I did a Crosette shell, My other sister is into quilting so I do a multi, break shell for her,I have five kids and four grand kids so you can see I get to make a lot of fun stuff, People have the natural ability to read something into your post because they don't know you, and writing is so, well flat it shows no passion no deflection that your voice can inflect, anyway just be safe if you are new then make simple things your family will understand and who knows next year you might have the entire family making stuff Earl
