SpikedCola Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I bought a big bar of lead (about 1"x1"x16") off eBay and Im going to melt it and pour it into .38 spl shells to make milling media. What can I melt the lead into to be able to control it and pour it?
Frozentech Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I bought a big bar of lead (about 1"x1"x16") off eBay and Im going to melt it and pour it into .38 spl shells to make milling media. What can I melt the lead into to be able to control it and pour it? I use an old 2 quart pan to melt it in, and a Lyman bullet casting ladle to scoop and pour it.
Mumbles Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I just went to goodwill and got a steel pot to melt in. I also got a steel spoon. I will probably bend it and put a spout on it to control it into the formers I am using.
lacrima97 Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 My grandpa is a bigtime fisherman, and he has this melting pot just for melting lead, and he has these special little presses that he presses out fishing weights with. It makes it into these nice little balls. I might ask him for a few, doesn't seem like a bad idea.
SpikedCola Posted May 29, 2006 Author Posted May 29, 2006 Yeah thats what I thought, but I couldnt get my hands on enough weights for cheap otherwise Id just fill the casing with sinkers and heat the casings until they melt. The strength of brass and the weight of lead are definately a winning combination
