BP only with KNO3 and sulfur.

Hi,

I did an experiment with only KNO3 and sulfur: the flame color was more vivid and much slower reaction with the classic ingredients of the BP.

Do you know the proportions or the mixture is very fast? (Sulfur and KON3 only)

Thanks

PS: I ask this because it is quite painful to grind dirty coal as it stretched as much sulfur powder is very fine

it wouldnt be black more an off white as ar as making lift you need a decent fuel sulfur isnt a great fuel when it comes to rapid burn it sensitises things and makes them burn faster but isnt really great on its own

No. You can make black powder without sulfur, but not without charcoal.

Yes, you're right I think, more combustion gases are suffocating!

I have tried only with BP Coal and KNO3, mixing was fast enough.

Are you a coal + KNO3 which is very fast?

Thank you !

Guess why! It produces sulfur trioxide which hey hey, combines with water to form sulfuric acid in locations such as your..mouth, nose and eyes! Yay!

KNO3 and sulfur really don't go that great together alone, the biggest functions of sulfur in BP are to sensitize and speed up the reaction.

By the way, you don't have to do the manual labor of grinding charcoal if you get a ball mill. It will also vastly improve your BP's wuality.

You get sulfur dioxide, not the trioxide. It's still nasty though.

The main role of sulfur is to sensitize the black powder by decreasing the ignition temperature and increasing the gas output. It doesn't really improve the speed much, this factor is most dependent of the kind of the charcoal.

If you don't like grinding charcoal, how about waxy solids? I've heard of people using benzoates in place of charcoal to make a white(ish) rocket propellant, though it may be suitable as a lift powder.

makes an awesome propellant part way between bp and whistle

as far as lifting stuff with it it worked (im not switching from bp though)

i have a question about this mix though I was thinking that it might not be a great idea to ball mill because it is kinda like nitrate based whistle and whistle is sensitive and nitrate based flash is still sensitive so um what are peoples thoughts I have been milling it in components
