kamikaze9290 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 when packing the propellant for a core burning rocket is it easier to pack it around something, or drill a hole in the propellant after packing it
aquaman Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 You can buy Rocket tooling online to help make the core or if you don't want to buy anything you can just drill it out. The only thing is that you want to do it by hand and Not by a drill. Good luck.
teknix Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Well if you are planning on making all the same type and size of rocket then I would make some tooling. If you are making a lot of different sizes and experimenting with different cores then I would drill them. You can use a drill on low speed with KNO3/Sugar propellant since this stuff does have a realitivly high ignition temp and I tends to melt than ignite. When on slow speed and keeping the bits clean I never had it get hot enough to melt it. If you are using BP fuel then I would drill by hand or get a manual drill thing with the crank. BP ignites a lot easier.
al93535 Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 This really should have been posted in the appropriate rocket thread. Or at least in the rocket section. Just because the newbie section is more lightly moderated then others, doesn't mean you should start a new thread for stuff already covered in another section. Moved to rocket section.
Vineman Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 You can make tooling with a long nail and a smooth board. Id suggest not using a drill unless the comp. allows it, since it can lead to the core cracking (which can lead to a CATO).
