optimus Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I wasn't particularly happy with this device overall, but I thought I'd submit in anyway to get this competition started. This isn't really a cake in the traditional sense as you will see from the pre-firing photos, but it's close enough. There are three sets of double fanned 3/4" fountains, followed by two 1" (flying fish/falling leaves) mines, with two fanned 1" Zirconium 'hits' to finish. I tried using falling leaves fuse as microstars for the fountains, and probably won't do that again - the colours are pretty bad. Givat Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 What is the effect of the 1" Zirconium 'hits' in the finish? wierd looking item, your quick match is fucking fast. what size are the mini-stars in the fountains?
ewest Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Nice, I was wondering when we'd see an entry here. I was working on one a while back but it turned out like total crap so I decided not to post it. For the effects fuse, how long did you cut them? I tried cutting some crackling fuse like 1 inch long once to use as micro stars, but it didn't turn out well at all. I couldn't even tell if they lit or not.
optimus Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 This photo shows the Zirconium in action: My brother missed it in the video, but you can see it lighting up the trees. http://www.apcforum.net/files/Newp51_RT8.jpg The "hits" are just a few grams of BP with some spherical Zr thrown in - it's lovely stuff. Burns with an incredibly bright pure white, and a soft crackle too. The quickmatch is so fast because it's commercial (Vulcan Chinese 5-strand). Their plastic coated stuff seems even quicker and is MUCH louder. The microstars were roughly 10mm long falling leaf. I cut the flying fish to just under 1", as I didn't want it travelling too far towards me. Even at this size it got pretty close. My next cake shall be vastly improved : )
weknowpyro Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Thats a nice cake. Liked all the fountains in it those mini inserts into the fountains gave a nice calm effect. What compostion did you use for your fountains hust like bp and iron?
Karl Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Awesome little cake! I have quite abit of that Falling Leaf & Flying Fish fuse too, did you seal off one end of the fuse to stop both ends from taking fire?
Von Bass` Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Well, hopefully I shall be posting a picture and a vid of a mine I'm working on now, but it'll be nothing on that beast! looks fantastic!
