End-burning rocket compositions!

Besides BP would you please share some with us! I found it a real hassle to do cores.

Let me start first! Here are some compositions I am trying out this week.

1. KMnO4 + Powdered Sparklers

An end-burning composition I'm going to try this week would be Potassium Permanganate and Kingcat sparkler powder in a 50:50 ratio.

It produces a lot of smoke, and the speed of burning seems faster than then KNO3-Sugar propellant !!!

2. KMnO4 + Sulphur, KMnO4 + Sucrose

KMnO4 + Sulphur burns too slowly in my tests last year, KMnO4 + Sucrose is too unstable especially even when the sucrose is slightly wet.

3. KBrO3 + Al + S + Sugar

Having had received a fresh batch of Potassium Bromate KBrO3 I will be doing rough tests with Al, Sulphur and Sugar as propellant stabilised with carbonate or bicarbonate ( which can also add colour effects ). I heard KBrO3 is a very strong oxidiser so I am looking forward to playing with it and hopefully using it for end-burning engines. :D

Meanwhile it would be helpful if some endburning rocket prop compositions can be suggested!!! ^_^

Most people just use straight BP, or a slightly modified ratio there of. While we are on this topic, I highly suggest completely forgetting about option 2. KMnO4 and Sugar decomposes when wet, generating a good amount of heat, and the reaction is self-sustaining, and increases in violence. KMnO4 and sulfur, I think that should be enough said right there.

If you are even willing to try some of these things, I suggest you stop with pyrotechnics until you get some common sense.

Check out the book "Amateur Rocket Motor Construction" listed in this thread:

He has a chapter on end burners...though not complete because he found it more of a hassel to make an endburner than a core burner. End burners have a longer burn time and you must have strong thick tubes that will hold up to the heat for a long period of time without burning through.

Making cores really isnt that much harder. You just need to either make some tooling for it or if you don't want to make the tools then use a drill on low speed and you can drill a core in 2 min.
