the174th Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 What book would be good for a beginner pyro? Not about safety, but about beginner projects. Thanks.
Ventsi Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Haha , funny how we just got the TurboPyro book by Ned ! It's a free Ebook that is available for downloading here, it has 10 great projects for the beggining pyro utilizing stuff you can get at your hardware store, walmart etc. http://www.apcforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=3648 1
Miech Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Not about safety, but about beginner projects.Since safety measurements is 50% of pyrotechnics, you WILL NEED to read that if you want to work safely and responsible. There is a reason every pyro book has a chapter devoted to safety. The book Ventsi suggests is a nice one to start with.
mbnapier Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 What book would be good for a beginner pyro? Not about safety, but about beginner projects. Thanks. Introductory Practical Pyrotechnics By Tom Perigrin I bought this from skykighter when I was starting out years ago. Excellent resource for beginners.

TheSidewinder Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Aneantis, When you used the link and gave them the email, etc, etc, did you OPEN the book right from the link or did you SAVE it and try to open it later? I know the PDF itself is, or at least WAS, good. I downloaded it several times while testing with the folks at Skylighter.
dagabu Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 What book would be good for a beginner pyro? Not about safety, but about beginner projects. Thanks. Turbo Pyro is what I am using to teach all three of my boys. They are 12-21 and it works for all. I am explaining the laws as well (whatever they happen to be today, interpreted by the guy with the badge... what a mess!) while building the stuff. We are only doing the lances, fountains, smoke etc until I can find a way to get the shells and mines to a place where we can legally shoot them.
Aneantis Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I just pressed on the link, normally then the choise has to be given save, open. But i just get an error saying that the file is broken.
TheSidewinder Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Well, I just tried it, and it worked fine for me. Instead of just a normal click on the final link, try right-clicking it and see if it will let you save it that way.

Instead of just a normal click on the final link, try right-clicking it and see if it will let you save it that way. I was able to download it yesterday just fine, so as of then its now working (still?) I do have a question about that ebook as long as its already been brought up. On page 52 where it starts talking about the fish-fuse mine. Am I correct in looking at it where it has a little lift charge, and then everything that is flying in the air is just fuse? I didnt see anything in the book where it explained why they do that, and i'm one of those guys that needs to understand why all the time. Thanks
Mumbles Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Flying fish fuse is pretty much bound flash. As you can imagine, it would burn more violently than just BP. Even visco can scoot around if not tied down. Flying fish just does it on a much more noticable scale.

Would something like black match give similar results (without the flash)? And 2nd question, when I see a similar effect from a star, is it done the same way, or are there a few ways to get the flying fish effect? Thanks

Thanks Though I'm no fuse expert, I don't know anything (fuse wise) which can be made by the average enthusiast like black match which would give similar results. Perhaps someone with a good homemade fuse set up, but I've never heard of anyone. I suspect the effect you saw might of been go getters. Basically an energetic composition which is put into a small cylinder tube (heard of people using straws). It is self propellant in a sense, which gives the flying (or 'swimming') effect. Usually containing Ammonium Perchlorate.

eddiegnz1 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I couldn't download the turbo pyro file?Is this because I haven't posted anything yet? In that case this is my first post **And it worked** Turbo Pyro is excellent for absolute beginners like me. I'm still beginner but I've successfully fired off pumped stars in the shell kit. Now I've bought the Shimizu book Fireworks art sciense and technique. That book is a comprehensive resource.

I couldn't download it since it said you need to post a comment so this is my first comment btw this is great forum both this forum and the Truebluepyro forum are good for aussies
Arthur Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 With Pyro, the first time you don't think about the safety of the comp and the process and the product, it bites back! Bites back could be fail to function as expected or could mean you lose body parts - neither of which are good. Also going to hospital with a blast injury or a burn WILL attract all the wrong attention and you could end up disfigured and in court.
TheSidewinder Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 No, it doesn't. Harry offered it to us for the short-term. You can get the Turbo Pyro book directly from his site now.
pyrojunkie Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 The turbo pyro ebook is AWSOME! Everyone realy should get a copy now before the site closes again.
