Over the last few weeks, I've talked with Harry Gilliam and his programmer, Brian, several times. We've arrived at an agreement that should benefit ALL of us.

Our mutual intent is to provide beginners with a safe, modern, and easy-to-follow method to get into the hobby of Amateur Pyrotechnics.

And the Turbo Pyro book/kit looks to be the first venture to that end.

It's been a long time since Tom Peregrin wrote his book, "Introductory Practical Pyrotechnics", and some of the information within it is now dated.

It still remains a very good resource, however it IS expensive. Pyrotechnics Publishing is a VERY small market, and printing costs are phenomenal for a small run of only a few hundred (or a few dozen) books.

With the release of this PDF, it is hoped that more people will become interested in Pyrotechnics.

And power, lies within numbers. The Federal government is continuing to violate our rights to enjoy life, all in the name of "what's good for us".

Please add your comments.

I know a lot of us are FAR beyond the beginner stage, and I suspect that will be the main reason many won't download it.

But if that's the case, please add a note why, if you don't mind?

Thank you!

The file is still available here: http://tp.skylighter.com/turbo-pyro/book1.asp?b=1 - THIS LINK IS DEAD, USE THE ONE BELOW!

I downloaded it... free and good information is something no-one should pass up, and Ned's articles have added a lot of credibility to Skylighter's newsletters. My nephew loves fireworks and I figured I'd pass this along to my sister to ease her into the concept of him 'rolling his own'.

Thanks Sidewinder! I'm all fixed up and am able to download it now. I think it is great to have around for friends that get the bug or younger family members. I'm glad something like this exists now. It would have been great to have 7 or 8 years ago when I was really starting true pyro.

Thanks to Skylighter and APCforum!

Wow thanks for providing this to us.

I am going to download it right now

Thanks again

Did I miss a link...? And is this pdf available to all people for free? I recall the Skylighter newsletters regarding this, and the book was part of a kit I believe. If this is a free download now I would like to give them a bit of advertising for it. Gotta keep spreading good fireworks information around.

EDIT: Never mind, I found it. So I can't just give it out to anyone huh? Could I encourage my YouTube viewers to join APCforum with the added benefit of the download becoming available to them?

Here's the gist of my conversations with Harry and Brian:

1) When Skylighter has the kits in stock, I *believe* the PDF will be available for free at the Skylighter site, via their published link ( http://www.turbopyro.com ) as it was before they ran out of kits.

2) When they are out of stock, Skylighter shuts off the link to the PDF on their site (you go on a waiting list), and APC then becomes the only place you can legally and officially get it.

This may change in the future, but at the moment Skylighter and APC are the *only* official outlets for the PDF.

Yes, please DO encourage people to come here and register, and follow the procedure outlined in the Download Link page. This is especially true for beginners.

Please do NOT post the PDF itself anywhere. While I doubt that Harry will spend time pursuing illegal postings (and let's face it, they're ILLEGAL!), you never know.

The point of this joint venture between Skylighter and APC is to get newbies into the hobby SAFELY, and in a manner that lets them "learn to walk before they run". We here have preached that mantra for the last couple years.

Additionally, Skylighter is trying to gauge the actual interest in this project as a whole.

Those of us who are way beyond the beginner stage may have no need for this PDF, but newbies certainly should have SOMETHING like it. And without some guidance from experienced pyros, getting the PDF all by itself will only do minimal good.

I think that 1 sentence speaks entire volumes. It's a perfect example of the right way to get someone into pyro. If you download the PDF and give it ONE newbie, even if you keep a copy for yourself, I suspect that that would delight Harry to no end.

While he is a businessman, and is trying to sell pyro supplies, he also is keenly aware of what the Government is trying to do to the hobby.

Since they cannot squash the "adults" (so to speak), they have chosen instead to go after the "kids" by passing one odious law after another to make it harder to start up in it.

"Getting Legal" is still possible with some effort on your part, BUT.... it's becoming harder and harder to do.

As I stated on the Download page: There is safety and power in numbers.

As an example, and whatever you may think of them, the NRA has been the best defense that gun owners have had against the Nanny-State mentality of Politicians who think that THEY know what's best for US.

If our voice is not loud enough, it will eventually be silenced forever.

Sounds good, that's what I figured. I'll start working on a video promoting APC and the Turbo Pyro pdf. I gave it a quick read through and I like what I see so far.

Where can I download it?

Yes can some one post the download link. Thanks!

I purchased the kit when I was first emailed about it. I was actually really impressed with the amount of stuff I got for the cost. Seemed like a total win. I have only made a few projects so far but I like how it definitely caters to and helps the beginner break into the field of pyro.

I have purchased a few things from skylighter and have always been happy with my orders.

Zmuro and Mario1, are you two not seeing the:

1) Announcement, at the top of every Forum.

2) "Download" section link, at the top of every page next to "Blogs", "Gallery", "Calendar", etc.

If not, what skin are you using? Try the Default (IPB Classic Blue) or the WWW skin.

TS, thank you for setting this up for us. I know it took quite a bit of work. I was able to download it with ease, but I cannot seem to save a copy of the PDF. I have tried both IE 7 and Chrome. Usually when IE7 opens a PDF file, there is a "Save a Copy" option, or you can right-click and "Save Target As..." I am not a total klutz with computers, but I can't seem to do this. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have IE 7. What I did was click the tools button and the menu pops up. From there I enabled "Menu Bar". This gave me the toolbar at the top that has File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help. I don't know why it doesn't come enabled. Anyway from there click file and then click save as. Downloaded it to my desktop instantly.

I only wish the video's were embedded in the file rather than linked to online.

I also like how turbopyro.com recognizes APC all over the download page. It even has the old school flame button.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, I sent them that button for customization.

Swede, at the "final" button for the download on the Turbo Pyro site, can't you do a Right-Click and Save-As ??

When I first downloaded the PDF, I did it the same as you, but I had a menu bar that let me save the PDF to my desktop.

This should still work.....

Is there going to be a download that has the videos embbed within it, I did have the link for it, but now it is dead, somone on PF gave it to me, it is about 400mb, so it is fairly big, but hay, im at school and can use however much i want, lol.

That will be up to Skylighter, but I suspect it won't be available. While you (and I) may have great download speeds, that's not true for the majority quite yet.

(And while the large PDF you mention was the result of someone genuinely wishing to help, it was technically illegal for him to do that. Harry and I discussed that, too.)

NightHawk , I think it would be really great if you did a video showing all the devices that could be made using and links to TurboPyro abd APC . Your YouTube account is one of the things I really looked up to when I was starting up , especially your cremoras!

You've got quite a crowd over there, It'd be great if you converted some of the *kewls*.

Read my post, it said I downloaded it from the Link. ;)

Sorry about that Sidewinder didnt know, you guys were uptight about that.

Is it available as a stand-alone download, for example something I can save to my PC and view at any time? Having to go on the net to view it every time is a nuisance. Otherwise, very nice.

Yes that was what was asked about earlier. Some of the "media" is linked to online though. So video's would't play and pictures may or may not show. I think they would, but I'm not sure.
