inonickname Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Well-I'm making a new ball mill and I'm going to get some new media for it. I have lead shot in sizes 00 and 000 available. 000 is 9.55 mm. Are these ok to use? I'm only asking as they are pure lead and do not contain antitomy as most milling media does (antitomy greatly hardens the lead). Will these be sufficient for milling black powder? I grind all of my ingredients very fine before use.
Bananaphone69 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 (antitomy greatly hardens the lead) Ohhhhh... so thats what its for ... Just playin. But its a hard question to answer with out knowing the size of your mill. For a Harbor Freight rock tumbler, it might be sufficient. But they are awful small...
deadman Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I don't use antimony lead. It should work OK, but does seam a bit small. Make sure you properly load your mill jar and feel it out. If you're having problems with it not being able to pulverize larger chunks, throw in a few fishing sinkers. That should help.
