Derekroolz, I really hope you've moved on from several of those practices, and many are simply unsafe.

PVC is not a suitable mortar material.

Flash is not a suitable lift, ESPECIALLY in PVC. You probably should set flash powder aside until you're more experienced as well given this account.

Really, light the fuse and throw it in the air? I don't even have a response to that outside of "wow"

I dont think a k3wl approach to this would be very accepted here, or safe. Id rather do it the good old fashioned way, it will help me later on. :D

I was going to comment on derekroolz's comment but I'll just be waisting my time .

PGF- Thanks alot for the walktrough but, you still didn't answer my main question , where can I find this stuff, I called around and noone even knows about it.

What would a reputable brand be? Price range? Spoonfed?

FYI, Ventsi, if you go into My Controls, and set your Blog to "Enable Friendly URL's" you can condense that long link in your signature to just:

Saves some space and makes it easier for people to "find" you.

A well stocked hardware store should stock it, but as you've probably noticed I live on the other side of the world so I don't really know where to get someting in the US. But generally speaking a hardware store should stock this (Paint section most likely)

You can also definitely find it at an auto parts store, or marine store. Look in the fiberglass or body work section. I recommend you get a bit more of the catalyst, too. Sometimes the kits have more resin than catalyst.

The stuff is easily located. The working time depends upon the amount of catalyst and the temperature. It might be worth the effort to do a couple of tests, using a good scale, to determine the working time of a batch with a given % of catalyst.

"Bondo" is another variation, except it is more of a putty than a liquid.

please tell me you meant bp instead of flash because putting 3g of flash in a pvc tube is basically asking to be bombarded by pvc shrapnel. For a first shell I sort of cheated and bought the skylighter 2inch flying fish fuse shell kit. It comes with everything you need except the mortar which you can buy seperately on there site. Its a good start because it doesnt involve having to make stars and once your confident in your ability to make stars you can move up to replacing the fish fuse with your stars. and for things to launch your shells out of you have two main options hdpe mortars and cardboard mortars you can get nice cheap hdpe mortars at pyro direct and thats what i reccomend using

I have to admit that I didn't make the tube from scratch or the end caps or the fuse or the... well, everything was purchased except the BP. I took a 1-3/4" Skylighter smoke tube and used for my first Italian shell. I filled it with firecrackers (I know, I know) and as I pulled our a 1/2" copper tube filled with lift it left a perfect BP core.

I pierced the top with an awl and inserted the aluminum taped fuse (1.5 second delay), hot glued (unplugged of course) the fuse to the shell and wrapped it with cotton string followed by two layers of fiberglass tape.

Broke just fine and almost all of the FCs went off as planned.
