mdawson Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I need some quick fuse. Has anyone got a line on some? It seems everyone is out.
Ventsi Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 http://www.cannonfuse.com/store/pc/viewPrd...mp;idproduct=81 They should be restocking in a week or two.I's email or call them to make a prepayment so you actualy get some.
firetech Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I love this stuff. Pretty high quality, although its a bit expensive for a few strands of bm wrapped in paper. Works great for finales and leaders
Mumbles Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Fast visco, and the stuff you're talking about are two separate things. Fast visco is actually a visco fuse, string wrapping and all. I don't know how it is made so fast. I've heard they use a far more granular powder. I don't have any with me to check. The fast paper fuse is indeed just a few strands of BP wrapped in paper. There was a group buy on passfire not too long ago.
firetech Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Mumbles, the fast visco seems to be far less consolidated as regular visco, it is also fairly poorly coated in NC lacquer, these two in combination are probably the cause for its speediness. The powder from the fuse does not seem to be granular by any means. I'd describe it more as having a slightly grainy texture, but definitely close to meal.
mdawson Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Visco or paper isn't important to me. I just need it to ignite reliably and hot. If anyone has any to sell send me an email or an IM. I want 150-200ft. Thanks
Swede Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 The web site does say "1st week in May" which is here, so it may be back in stock now. I bought a roll of the stuff and it is as advertised, plenty fast and hot. I decided to buy some after seeing it in use on commercial festival balls and other small mortar-type consumer fireworks. It travels down a 12" tube to ignite the lift in about 2 to 3 seconds. It's expensive compared to BM but it's effective and convenient.
mdawson Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 I sent cannonfuse.com an email. They told me it would be the 3rd or 4th week into May before they got it in. They also wouldn't let me buy any ahead of time.
Mumbles Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Skylighter still has it, but it's a bit pricy. As a matter of fact I needed some fast visco for this weekend. Not a good time to be figuring this out.
Swede Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 mdawson, can you substitute Quick Match? More work but similar results, and you are not at the mercy of suppliers.
mdawson Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 I suppose I can. I don't see why I couldn't. I talked with Steve over at Pyrocreations and he told me to check the site on Tuesday. What are the pros and cons of Quick Match?
Ventsi Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 What are the pros and cons of Quick Match? PRO: Wayyyy cheaper per foot than any fuse you can buy.PRO: Faster than any fuse you can buy.PRO: More flame, hotter I suspect. CON:If you want to buy it, shipping is not an option.CON:You pretty much have to make it.CON:Unless making 20 ft is the case you need some serious appartus to make 150-200ft of QM.
Mumbles Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 It's not that hard to make 100-200 feet. I make 150 feet at a time. As long as it doesn't have to be a continuous length I think you'd be fine. I can give more details if anyone is interested.
swervedriver Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) You can make a lot of Bm if you take a little time to plan. Just a couple of small board scraps, couple pices of dowel, a drill, and 2 screws makes an easy rack to wind it up on. here's a pic of 200 feet of match drying. If you're going to make it, make as much needed to last a while because it's a messy job, but definitely worthwhile! All you do then is roll up some paper tube (like 1/4" or 3/16" paper straw) from lightweight kraft strips or tape and thread a pice of BM down it and voila, super fast fuse. The QM burns so fast a 1 meter length doesn't burn like visco or quick visco, it just goes BANG from one end to the other in a fraction of a second. Edited May 7, 2009 by swervedriver
