ActionTekJackson Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Ok, some of these are most likely already listed somewhere on this forum. What I wanted to do here was collect all the non-composite colored rocket compositions I could (non commercial as far as I know). I'm not talking BP variations either. I have attached my pdf that I created with formulas and graphs, most of these can be made on standard 1lb BP tooling sets. I have not listed all safety precautions or detailed preparation instructions. I will however, attach all the documentation where I got my information as well. Please feel free to let me know any I've missed. :-) I am also attaching a pdf of go-getter formulas that may or may not work as rockets. Anyone feeling up to testing some and letting us know please do :-)Colored_Rocket_Compositions.pdfColored_Sky_Rocket_Compositions.pdfCompositions.pdfMagnalium_Rockets.pdf
shagaKahn Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 "I am also attaching a pdf of go-getter formulas that may or may not work as rockets." Looked in vain for this particular attachment and either it never made it or got scraped off somehow. I too am using go-getter formulae to make rockets and have posted queries about this in several places and though lots of folks are reading them no one's responded yet. Can't believe I'm the only one making colored rockets with go-getter comps . . .
warthog Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) I didn't see the Go-Getter attachment either but here is what I have learned about the subject... Any comp that is energetic enough will make a go getter work, at least with the newer method f making them. I have never tried the older method of pouring a slurry into a sealed tube to set up and just before set up making the core and fusing it. I am really not a rocketeer either but the idea of colored rocket appeals to me for sure. It would be nice to lift a shell filled with one color with a complimenting color or maybe a nice, bushy glitter tail... Edited March 8, 2012 by warthog
shagaKahn Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Hey warthog, what is "the newer method?" Admit I've never tried the slurry method--I assume this is the one where you put the wet comp in a ketchup squeeze bottle and fill the go-getter tubes. I use the method Ned Gorski describes for making go-getter rockets at skylighter, in which the damp comp is hand-rammed into the tube and then cored with an awl before it sets. Works pretty well--though my results are inconsistent. Have gotten red-, green-, and blue-burning rocket cores to fly pretty well. Nighthawkinlight's purple formula lacked sufficient power even to lift the rocket out of its launch tube; likewise Ralph's suggestion of Shimizu's Brilliant Core.
