TheSidewinder Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Although we haven't had this problem, and likely won't because of all the checks and restrictions we have in place for new users, some forums are experiencing spamming through the PM system. The forum software authors are working on a patch to make this much easier to manage. This is just a heads-up to our members: If you receive *ANY* PM's with spam in them, please report it to both me *AND* Mumbles immediately. Use Email to contact, rather than the "Report" link (which uses the PM system). I don't think this is going to be a problem for us. The idiot spammers give up very quickly if they're thwarted in their attempt to do this, and our existing security policies seems to have prevented it already. But it pays to stay ahead of the scum. Thanks, all.
Brakkie Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I've had it on other forums but not here yet! It's a software-issue right? Not specific attacks to any forums?
TheSidewinder Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 No, it's not specific to this site. Targeted forums are all over the map. A patch has already been released, and if we have a problem I'll install it. After some quick testing, I've determined it's not necessary at the moment, given that our existing policies have thus far prevented it. But as I said, if anyone gets a spam PM, be sure and let us know ASAP. Thanks!
