iv81 Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 I think you're suposed to leave it unconfined without burn pressure like in a little penny shaped cup so it's free to strobe from the top not forced to exaust only flame from the side. And why do you need BP in there I don't understand. It's not hard to light at all. without it. Just stick a 1 inch fuse and stick 2/8 of it inside the center top.
aquaman Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I tried a cup the first time. The composition is to strong and it just jumped right out of the cup into my grass . And I don't use BP as you said it is fairly easy to ignite. Lets just say I've pretty much tried every container for this. I think I'm doing something wrong but give me some time and I'll figure it out.
optimus Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Mabye pressing this comp into a go-getter like device with a core would be a good approach? I've been trying to formulate a blue strobe mix using Copper Benzoate and AP - prelimenary results are quite interesting. It tends to burn without any visible flame in an open-ended tube, then it starts to chuff, giving off extremely vivid blue flashes as it does..... Will have to see if I can reproduce the effect reliably...
FrKoNaLeaSh1010 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Well I tried a white strobe device today. First time messing around with strobes. I used the comp bano3/magnesium/sulfur27/18/55 that i found in the comp database. It actually worked rather good for such a simple comp. Flashed at the rate of about 2 flashes per second. Rather slow compared to some commercial ones i've seen. The only problem was that the paper tube started to burn and ruined the effect completely. Would it be possible to make like a comet out of this stuff bound with a slight percentage of dextrin and stick a fuse in it? i dont know where i would get a small metal cup of that size to do it in. So if anyone can suggest a good container/way to make these strobe pots it would be appreciated.
crazyboy25 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 i made a barium nitrate magnalium strobe as well i was to impatiant to put it in paper or wet it. so i lit it dry. it just burned i blamed it on my magnalium because i recently found out it was too fine. does wetting it and puting it in a tube dramaticly alter the effect?
Mumbles Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Yes, it has to be bound to get the strobe effect. I'm not sure about the confinement, but I have always confined it. Now that I think about it, the confinement is important. It is the intimacy of the mixture that gives the dual burning. Too fine of MgAl wouldn't cause it to just burn, but it may shimmer more than strobe.
psyco_1322 Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 That blur strobe will strobe. You do have to use the right silicone or else it just burns blue. It strobes rather fast with a popping noise and jets around if made into stars. I have a vid of a rocket i tryed to make with it using 4oz. cored bp rocket tooling. It made a mess of the tooling so I addvise that it not be tried with anything you made a lot for. I took me awail to get it all out of the rammers. It had a small flash header IIRC. picture of it:http://s108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/psyc...nt=S4020734.jpg Video:http://s108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/psyc...nt=S4020735.flv
