Chris Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Zmuro, you are from Slovenia, right? I have to ask, where did you get your precious FeTi from?
Zmuro Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I ordered from this site: http://www.heisse-eisen.eu/index.php?site=Produkte_1
Chris Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Alright. That is some seriously pricey stuff! I have for ages now been trying to find a reasonably priced supplier in Europe, without any luck. Anyway, very cool shells. I really like the idea of going out to shoot some pyro with a bunch of friends. You obviously have found a great place to do that!
psyco_1322 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Most variants of Ti and FeTi will run around the $20 a pound for small time hobbyists. Given a pound is roughly 454g, that price is not that bad for being a hard to find item in the UK. Zmuro, you by chance tried a new spindle yet ? Some really great shells guys. Keep it up.
Zmuro Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Zmuro, you by chance tried a new spindle yet ? Some really great shells guys. Keep it up.I didn't give plans for my new spindle to the local shop yet, so for now I'm stuck with the old one
swervedriver Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Zmuro, beautiful shells as usual. Can you tell me what type and mesh Ti you're using in those farfalles and ring stars?
Zmuro Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Zmuro, beautiful shells as usual. Can you tell me what type and mesh Ti you're using in those farfalles and ring stars? For farfalle shell I used 100-250um granular Ti, and for the ring stars I used 40mesh Ti sponge (Spider stars with 5% Ti sponge)
Ventsi Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Just a 2" mine.Enjoy. I like the nearly perfect ring that formed somehow. There were two steel comets but threy barely burned and came right down to the ground.
Yankie Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It rained again, just some shells and a mine.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vlcWMvjb54...re=channel_page I made several rockets, all the ones I filmed CATO'd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZo5xxb3uOs...re=channel_page
flying fish Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 My shell for the day (just a little 1.75" ball shell):
Seymour Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 pyrogeorge Posted Apr 23 2009, 03:00 PM My videos. Looking good! Flying Fish. Especially for such a small size, that shell was very good. A shame about the red stars though. I'm picking that they need a bit more than a lack powder prime.
psyco_1322 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 If you want to make your small shells look a lot more impressive try out some color changing stars. Take you red, roll some cores, about 1/8". Then roll your C-6 over that until about 5/16 - 3/8". It will make the shell look a lot more complex, and gives a better over all appearance that distracts from imperfections like break shape. Very nice looking glitter tail. Throw about 5 of those stars in with a straight C-6 shell and it will look stellar. Just some ideas...brings back memories of trying to get them little shells to work and look good. I now suggest that anyone starting shell building should go straight to 3" and come back to small shells later.
flying fish Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I think I will try rolling the C6 over the red. As for primes, I might try a Silicon-enhanced BP based prime directly over the stars, and then roll it in the C6. I think the main reason for the biased break pattern may be the fact that I only filled one half of the shell with C6 stars. The other half was the red stars. I did this as a way to test both stars at the same time. I've been doing the little shells almost exclusively, just because the fallout zone is smaller; I'm afraid of bigger shells being able to throw things (like star fallout) onto my neighbors' property...
Aimlesspayload Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 my videos, sorry they're are completely shit. I only have access to a friends video camera, which is basically cell phone quality and doesn't even have sound. I gotta buy a camera, bad. anyways, here's my videos. I try to put a decently detailed description in each. Large smoke bomb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUeAfFPding...re=channel_page 3" shells: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jm1d7iBGf0...re=channel_pagehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX3SWKYNAAg...re=channel_pagehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9WUnywc_Yo...re=channel_pagehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv7cA-6qBi0...re=channel_page ugh...
Beprotizzz Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hi, I'm new. My two videos, 2 month old D1 glitter efect was bad, I milled mixture up to 4h, but for glitter's need only 1h, now I know and 3" willow shell
Seymour Posted June 27, 2009 Author Posted June 27, 2009 My latest things. Included is a few things I've wanted to try, such as a three inch starmine where I put as much in as I can, the jellyfish, and the ascending branching comets. I can pull up pre-fire pics in the next few days if it is of interest.
swervedriver Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 The jellyfish is great. Were the tentacle comets put only in the bottom of the hemi, or lined all the way up to the rim? Did you skirt or "rope drag" the shell for correct orientation? Inspiring shell man, that one is definitely on my attempt list
psyco_1322 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I like the double camera angles. Its neat you put one right there beside the mortars. Last two shells were amazing, great work. I would guess that if you filled one hemi full of stars, like you would for a falls type of shell, and left the other hemi with significantly less weight, that is would orientate itself based on weight differences.
Seymour Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 I wanted more reliability, so I added a tail........ http://pyrobin.com/files/p1000749.jpg
flying fish Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Nobody posted their July 4th videos yet! I didn't really have much of a show, but I videotaped a few of my hap-hazardly contructed shells:
deadman Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Great job FF. I particularly enjoyed the 3rd shell. You definitely have a fast break! Don't be so critical of yourself. Awesome.
flying fish Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 (edited) Thanks! Yeah, I liked the third one as well...had the most glittering. Those were dextrin/water bound Winokur 39 glitter stars. They were originally 3/8" pumped stars, but I broke them into pieces so that I could fit them in the small shell. None of those shells have any pasting or spiking. They are just 1-3/4" plastic ball shells broken with, in some cases pure granulated whistle, and in others pulverone with a flash booster. This is where the "hap-hazard" construction comes into play...I didn't do anything with these shells beyond the bare minimum required to hold them together. Just glued the halves together, glued on a lift cup, and taped a fuse to the shell and inserted it into the lift cup. You'd really have to see what the pre-launch looked like to understand how poorly these were constructed! That said, I guess I wasn't so much dissatisfied with these shells, as I was the fact that I didn't have a wider variety of effects for the 4th... I was going to build some shells with reeper silver and C6, but unfortunately those stars did not dry on time. I also wanted to have some color shells, but ran out of time to make those stars. This is largely because I can only work on pyro during the weekends. Next year I'll have to try and take more time off work in the weeks preceding the 4th! Edited July 8, 2009 by flying fish
