Schwartzy Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I found some industrial drain opener that says on the label contains concentrated sulfuric acid. But on the back of the container it says sufuric acid and water. I read somewhere that concentrated sulfuric acid doesn't contain water. Is this really concentrated? Any comments or suggestions?
Caleb51 Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Well, if it has no other additives, then technically, 99 percent pure Sulfuric has 99 percent acid, 1 percent water. What concentration do you need, and what for?
Schwartzy Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 Well last time I stated what I was making it ended up being locked even though I wasn't asking for a synthesis to make it. I had just stated that I was trying to make something and I needed to know where to find a chemical which I feel stupid asking for anyway. There are lots of things I want to make but some require concentrated sulfuric acid in order to work. Thanks for that input which should have been obvious but I still had to check.
Swany Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 They can say whatever they want. Assume it is 90%< pure, or do a density/titration to find for sure.
pa_pyro Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Concentrated could mean it is 50% acid or 99%. Concentrated just means that it is diluted by another substance.
lacrima97 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 What is the actual brand? I only know of liquid lightning and rooto, and rooto is about 93%.
