persut Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 i am looking to make a few rockets this year, and i was just wondering what would be a good to start out with?
Goofy Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Do you have any tooling or are you starting from the ground up? A 1lb size (3/4" ID) core burner is a good size to start with and can carry a respectable payload (3" ball shell plus or 180gram range). Good tooling is about $100.00 to $120.00 USD. 60% fine KNO3 30% Charcoal -AF 10% Sulfur is a good BP mix for this motor. I mix the fuel through a 20 mesh screen a fwe times then dampen it with 15% water, push it through a screen onto a paper lined tray and let it dry. This not only increases the strength of the mix but it aids in de-dusting it. Hope this helps. Goofy
fireworks Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I would definitely start out with black powder endburners. Find a casing size and nozzle diameter that will work well with your black powder (like .5'' casing ID and .125'' nozzle) and if your black powder is consistent they will work every time.
firetech Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I have not had any experience with bp rockets past 3/4''...4 oz endburners seem to be the easiest and cheapest. You can send an OK sized payload relatively high on only 6g..I have always used 75/15/10 bp milled for 24 hrs. You might have to do some experimenting with the nozzle size but endburners are a great starting point because they are so simple to make and a great deal of fun.
TrueBluePyro Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 If you buy a small rockt tooling set you will regret cause as you get better these rockets wont be good enough for you, lol and they wont lift nearlly as much. So if I where you I would buy a 1lb rocket set from wolter......very good stuff.
