derekroolz Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Sorry to bring up an old topic but....Can dextrin go past an expiration limit? I have some from June or July sitting in a glass jar, with a tight lid. I made some D1, and they are dry, because they burn fast, and glitter the way they are supposed to. I put in the usual 5%. However, they can be crumbled in the hand, and cannot withstand even a decent firing from a star testing gun. Has my dextrin gone bad? I think that I will make some new dextrin tomorrow, just to check. It might be possible that your dextrin has gone bad, but maybe your dextrin has just absorbed water. It may just have to be cooked to be dried.
ropyro Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 It could also be that the dextrin took on water from the air and was hydrolised to sugars, the same way that corn starch is hydrolised by acids to make the dextrin
TheEskimo Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Ok, thanks. I made up a new batch today. I'll make some new stars tomorrow, and see how it does.
