optimus
I've found a source of Tetramethylammonium Nitrate, which I'm thinking about using to make some crazy 'black' strobes with. Only problem is that it's incredibly expensive... There is 97% pure but I cannot get a breakdown of impurities so I have no idea how much Sodium there might be lurking in there. Should I risk the 97% or go with a higher purity? Any thoughts?
Tweetybird88
A black strobe? That has got to be the most intense thing I've heard of. Any chance I can get some info on that? Is it for daylight?
optimus
Here's one formula: "Black" Strobe Pyrotechnic Formula (Clive Jennings-White, Pyrotechnica XIV)Ammonium perchlorate 30Tetramethylammonium nitrate 40Copper, atomized, -100 mesh 30 There is a great deal more information about Clive’s pyrotechnic formulas above in Pyrotechnica XIV (BK0114), Blue Strobe Light Compositions." The way I understand it is that there is no light emitted directly from the star. Rather a cloud of flamable gas exits the star and spontaneously combusts, giving off a very deep violet flash. Or something to that effect. The phenomenon is detailed in Baechle's Pyrocolor Harmony and also in Pyrotechnica.
jacob
ding dang it, i can't get my 1lb cored black powder rocket motors to work right, they keep catoing blowing the tube and all with 75 15 10 green mix with airfloat charcoal, i'm pressing them with a 6 ton bottle jack and useing ground cat litter as the nozzle with tooling from greg boyd. whats a better fuel to use. pudidotdk
At the look of it, it should be okay, if there's anything you can change it's the composition that needs to be slowed down. You can do this by adding charcoal. Experiment and see how much you have to use 'till it won't CATO anymore, this way you can get the fastest rocket.
Aikimike999
Hiya, Optimus, is there any chance of you sharing your Tetramethylammonium nitrate supplier? I have been looking for some ever since I read that Skylighter bullitin! Any help will be much appreciated! Â Â Best regards, Â Mike

crazyboy25
i was looking on UN's website for making meal coated rice hulls i've never made them before but 375g of BP 75g of dextrin for one cup of rice hulls seams excessive. what do you think?
_DB_
It is excessive. You can easily coat 3 1/2 cups of hulls with that much BP and dextrin.

asilentbob
So I'm defiantly going to be able to help with a pro 4th show. Its going to be 600 2-1/2" and 3" shells, nothing bigger. But still! And i get a free hat! Making alot of filler material myself. I started making it 50/40 rice crispys to meal+4% dextrin... Then decided that wasn't quite enough and now im going back through all i made and adding 60g of meal+4% dextrin to every 90g of filler... When im done i should have enough for atleast 1 6" 3 4" and like 12 3" ish... BUT i need to get alot more commercial 1Fg lift and some cannon grade to mix in a bit for the 4" and 6" shells... And i need to pulverize and mill around 1000g of this cowboy charcoal so i can make some stars! I think most of my stars are going to be pumped, but i think im going to try ghetto rolling some 1/4" and slightly bigger for small shells and inserts. _DB_
What's all this talk about genitals? I only have 4 inch hemis so I can only make 4 inch shells. Geez. Â Forget it, it's a penis joke.

You can easily coat 3 1/2 cups of hulls with that much BP and dextrin. yeah i thought so too i will use 2 cups of rice huls but i was actually refering to the proportions of 375g BP to 75g (!) of dextrin that seems like ALOT most formulas use 5% but i have never made meal coated rice hulls so i can say for sure could you help me? Umphrey
The 75grams of dextrin is ludicrous. I use 280grams bp/20grams dextrin per TWO CUPS of corn cob. I tried the UN method once and there was like 100 grams of bp left over that wouldn't even stick. Edit: Pictures Resized.Edit2: pictures deleted, nothing worth seeing.Edit3: It should be noted that I am using balsa black powder, other charcoals won't be nearly as voluminous and therefore won't fully coat the corn cob. h0lx
what's the point of 2000*1500 pixel photos, if they are out of focus and blurry?
Umphrey
what's the point of 2000*1500 pixel photos, if they are out of focus and blurry? You're absolutely right. It's my piece of crap camera, it has an auto-focus feature that seems to do nothing but make it blurry as all hell. I'm gonna have to break down and buy a new camera, this one is useless

h0lx
Each lens has a minimum distance of focus, so just rather shoot from longer distance and use zoom(not digital zoom, it gives same result as cropping anyway) And mardec, in shells the measures always mean diameter....
