h0lx Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I have been trying to build a tesla coil too, but after everything enrolls into a big mess, you get so pissed, you won't want to wind anything for a while. Nice that my teacher lets me to use her 25kV DC transformer and gives me a mark tho.
Swany Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Everyone says winding the secondary is the hardest part, though I really did not feel it was. It took me 2 hours from the time when I decided I did not want to wind it by hand to putting on a coat of urethane. This includes the time it took to partially deassemble, then reassemble the treadmill so it would not object to have a 4in section of PVC turned by it. Everything is complete now, exept the primary coil and the wiring. Getting exited!
Swany Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I have a toroid that is constructed from some aluminum ducting, aluminum foil, and aluminum tape... so yes!
optimus Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Backwards sandcastle explosions! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/421389/sand_..._backwards_v_2/ What a wonderful idea

cplmac Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 UKPS is down. Has anyone heard if they are gonna get back up and running anytime soon?
Frozentech Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 UKPS is down. Has anyone heard if they are gonna get back up and running anytime soon? They used up their monthly transfer most likely. Same thing happened last month. Should be up on the 1st. They really need a new hosting plan !
Mumbles Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 They said they did switch after last month's downtime I thought.
asilentbob Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I just got some of this sweet acrylic fabric painting medium, i just mix a bit with my acrylic paint and paint on fabric, let it dry, iron it, and wash it. Bam! New shirt! So im thinking of making some shirts for myself with differnt quotes, pictures, ratios, and so forth that only people familiar with pyrotechnics would understand. Probably some chemistry ones too. A classic pyro example that im definatly doing is: "75:15:10"... Probably the sig that im using now too. Some more:"1 oz of 2FA per lb.""How do you take your stars? Cut, pumped, rolled, or pillbox?""Lamp B. Lack or Flake Al, Which is worse?" I know i wrote a bunch down, but i think they might be on my computer that crashed... I might be able to find some on my jump drive and in my sketch books though... But yeah if you think up any write them down and ill start a thread in a couple days when i have found most of the ones i had from before.
h0lx Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 (Geeky one, not pyro, but rather chemistry)"Got casein suspension in aqueous solution of lactose?"
Mardec Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Why not something like: " Girl, wanna see me firing my 12 inch ? " Strickly speaking of a pyrotechnic device of course
Pretty green flame Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Why not something like: " Girl, wanna see me firing my 12 inch ? " Strickly speaking of a pyrotechnic device of course Haha, damn funny!
asilentbob Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Haha! Thanks those 2 are awesome! Heres some more:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parker_Pen_CompanyThey have a "formula" for a martini on that page. I think it would be good on a shirt, but it would stump everyone who hasn't seen that page or doesn't remember the ad. Some old people might get it."Chemigod", the drawings of molecules like capsacian, caffene, potassium perchlorate, potassium nitrate, sulfuric acid, sugar, maltose, etc, (maybe KNO3, C, and S together on the shirt, that could go with 75:15:10),a diagram and text describing how a keg/kegerator system works, the 3 or 4 most applicable reactions of bleach and ammonia (you know, the ones that make poisionous/toxic/explosive products), "I love chems.", "Nitrophile", the oxygen balance formula, "ANAl, its not what you think.", an equation to describe fermentation, and thats all i can remember now. I still need to find where i wrote a bunch down... BTW i just bottled some light red wine. Also waiting for orders to come in is torture. Edit: I also started about 90 seeds consisting of cayanne, habanero, chili tepin, zimbabwe birds eye, pepperoncini peppers, and some burgandy amaranth that i hope to be using a bit of to make malt for ales. I have no idea how many plants to expect, maybe half, but im going to be making some raised bed garden plots pretty soon to accomodate everything. I decided to get grape vines later at a nursery... I don't know if ill still be getting hops vines, probably not...
optimus Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Taken from the Jackerypyro formula page: "Mg in the presence of water or water vapor evolves into highly explosive hydrogen gas. FeTi (ferrotitanium) is also very dangerous when in the presence of water, more so than Mg. Do not ever use water in mixtures with Mg unless it is treated (coated), and even if it is treated, exercise with extreme caution." Is this (the part about FeTi) correct? Never heard of FrTi being that dangerous, and I'm pretty sure I've used it in presence of water before... BTW, the UKPS forum is back up again... they really ned to get that transfer limit sorted!
FrankRizzo Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 I picked up a great shirt at the convention in Mason City 2005, it reads: "My blood type is 2FA If I have to explain you wouldn't understand"
