pa_pyro
Does anyone know any harmful decomposition products of acetyl salicylic acid? I had a solution of it drying in the oven, I checked the tray and there were a bunch of crystals but they were still damp so I left them in for another minute. When I opened the stove door the crystals had decomposed into a yellowish liquid and I got a lungfull of nasty fumes. To aid in dry time/solvent the solution had isopropyl alcohol in it so that might of reacted somehow. I would like to know what I just inhaled. Mumbles
There are a few nasties that could have resulted. Acetic Acid, Acetic anhydride, ketene, isopropyl alcohol fumes, isopropyl acetate, isopropyl salicyliate. THere are several more decomposition products that could have resulted, but are too numerous to mention. I'd say mostly acetic acid, isoproyl acetate, and isopropyl salicyliate. pa_pyro
It was propably the acetic acid that burned, almost like breathing in weak to medium concentration chlorine fumes. No lasting effects atleast. There isn't enough extra binder in the aspirin to justify trying that again, unless I watch the temp better and use a differnet solvent. rocket
It's hard to tell with that flash powder because it's on grass, which is already green. One of the best ways to tell is to place a small unconfined pile and light a fuse to it. Put your back to it and hold up a piece of white paper and watch that. Thanks, I’ll give that a try next time I make up some more green flash.

Swany
Hello everybody, I have been fairly busy as of late. Hockey started for real, and I have been busy coaching and playing. It's going well, and I am sure looking forward to resuming chemistry and setting up a nice New Years shoot for this year. Hope everyone is well. h0lx
By salami do you mean some firework or the actual sausage?
Mumbles
Heh, fireworks. Thought my feelings would not be hurt with some meat either. I was talking about large multi-break canister shells. Often times they are refered to as salami shells due to their extreme length. I am just starting work on them with some star formulas and inserts. Something like this, the back shell.http://japan-fireworks.com/symposium/itarianshell.jpg

_Po_
I ranked third last in English out of the grade this year at school. The other day the teacher gave a big talk about how we're the most intellectually powerful advanced English class he's ever had and gets pretty excited at times. Two teachers said I'm easily the most intelligent of the class. They said I'm "insanely intelligent" and have a "massive brain" and that I "scare them" with my "natural talent." They also said I'm lazy. They based this on half a page I wrote in the morning after a big night (two parties in walking distance of each other) drinking cheap wine and rolling around on the road. When they publicly announced this in class I think the "smartest" kid in the class almost cried, the look on his face was satisfying. He's hated me since I moved here in grade 3 for some reason (because I'm stupid?), but after this he's been awkward around me and has tried to talk to me a few times. He thought he was superior to everyone. All he wanted was someone at his "level" to have clever conversations with. Poor guy. I think I'll pretend to be friends with him then kick him in the balls. Other than that I'm spending $1400 on a subwoofer and amplifier (part school project, part christmas present, part interest). The necessary components of my pyro stuff needed to do anything are at a friend's place who lives 35 minutes away. I should probably pick it up some time. I've fallen out of pyro because of that I think. My big end of term party is coming up and I'm thinking about setting up a hidden display that no one knows about (6 acres of land plus an air strip to hide it on) and staying sober for half the night to surprise everyone. I haven't made anything for ages. Nothing pyro for over two months, it's weird. The party should be good. I made an A3 poster for it and stuck a few up at school. That's the first time we've donw that, usually it's word of mouth the day before the party. My friend is making a rotisserie spit and we might cook a kangaroo (hahaha, we're Aussie, mate) and my friend's parents own a bar so we're getting a keg pretty cheap. It's gonna be fun. I started the end of term party tradition at the beginning of this year, we usually have a round two the weekend after the first one. At the winter round two party it got down to -12C and we didn't have any fire wood. It was still fun though, we basically got drunk and walked to a friend's place about 15km away to yell "GET THE FUCK OUTSIDE!" then ran back. There had been bush fires through that area and at some places on the side of the road there were smouldering logs to keep us warm/get pissed on. Oh, we're putting in a dance pole too. A friend of mine who used to live in a different place is bringing her cheerleading friends. That should be fun too... Bed time now.

droppin88
Its funny how you get so mad when asked a question. Especially Ewest. I wasnt asking how to make one. I asked what the real specifications were of an m-80. Smart ass.
asilentbob
Google - m80 military Ask google, because, yes someone here will definatly have the specs, but you will get them faster yourself. When you depend on other people to spoonfeed every little thing you, you learn alot slower. The info is out there, just search. Just search. Just search...
