optimus
Went to see the shugborough festival of fireworks at the weekend. Sadly Orzella had some pretty bad technical difficulties and alot of their show was blank : ( Also they upped the safety distance to 150m, so the show wasn't as 'in yer face' as before, but on the whole it was a great night. I'll post the photos soon, but until then I'll leave you with a pic of an : )unneccessarily large salute This one was brighter than the sun. Mumbles
Come now. How can you use unneccesarily large to describe a salute?
mr.pyro
Can anyone help me with number 1 and 2. I posted this on madsci, but I need a quick response so if anyone knows then please lend a hand. thanks
Pyrohawk
I remember the Pyro Video!! There were a few half finished one and then one that was pretty decent. I would like to see a new one up....would be cool..... The only problem is that with the new Forum people can't browse through everyones videos like before. So this time pople will have to submit videos for it. Thats cool....if anyone wants to do it go for it! I will submit a few.... Oh and yes its sad that Steve Erwin died....really a shame. But as someone else said atleast he died doing what he loved...albeit a bit earlier then he expected I'm sure.
XinE895
Hey, Xin! Where've you been? Whats up? I'm happy to see that someone missed me... I've been around, the only difference is i met an amazing girl and spend all my time with her. But school has started for both of us so what am i to do with all my free time while shes at school? That's a stupid question, for it is clearly chemistry and some pyro.... School has been pretty easy so far, just business classes and English, nothing special. I'm in for a business management degree right now, i don't plan on finishing it. I want to get my GPA up so i can transfer to UW Madison or Milwaukee. I really want to be a scientist, like material or something...chemistry, i think, should be a daily thing in my life. I may not be a god in it like Mumbles but i can figure it out... Anyways ill be having some free time in the mornings and stuff while shes at school, so I'm hopeing to get back into things...
weknowpyro
I reckon that a film should still be made personally although there have been failures in the past i don't see why that should stop us, maybe the best way to sort music and clips out is if the admin had some spare time maybe. I.E the admin choose's the music for the video then everyone who wants something of theres in the video has to write there name down by a certain date they the submit there video or video's admin checks them for suitable content and then we can edit it. Mumbles
Now that I think of it, I really need to start going through the files anyway and taking out the random shit. I saw some prom pictures the other day. Pretty girls, but not pyro related. Those might go in to the private stash, heh. I'll keep my eyes out for the really good ones and post them. Looking through competitions also will be good.
d4j0n
I'm trying to make a basic silver fountain. I made a 50/50 mix of kclo4 and aluminum...unknown type but I'd say that it's spherical, probably 325 mesh. Is this stuff safe to ram?
rocket
I personally wouldn’t recommend ramming that comp, even BP rockets with metals in it shouldn’t be rammed.
weknowpyro
Kclo4 and al fountain? I have heard of a sparkler compostion using this but not a fountain.
Pretty green flame
Good evening everyone I have a question, first see the moviehttp://www.jackerypyro.com/images/lateral_candle.avi Could anyone tell me what star comp this might be, the authour only lists it as a silver star but i am unable to find the comp so any advice is welcome. To me it looks like a Mag fueled (because of the brightness) with bright aluminium for the tail. Anyhow, a formula would help
d4j0n
So basically all fountains are bp variants with added metals? I could swear I've seen commercial ones that threw out pure silver without the orange glow of charcoal.
BigBang
Think a steel or Ti fountain. With particles burning so bright, you don't see the gowing charcoal embers. When it is finished, you will see them, but while it burns, it is overshadowed. Going back to the movie talk, I think I will do one or two, because I am loosing my social life for a little bit. I have started one, tuned to slipknot's "The Pulse of the Maggots." I plan to make one, a bit more, professional if you will, tuned to the 1812 oveture. I believe it will be very pleasant. If you have anything you want to be included, email it to me, or direct transfer it over AIM/MSN. To mumbles and the other mods, as I am about to have a bit of free time, I could go through the filehost and delete the crap. Would save ya'll some time, as I'm sure work and school must be picking up around this time.
Mumbles
The problem is I don't know how to give you access to it without giving you the admin account details to go through and have access to everything.
RUUUUUN
Interesting, if a mod deletes a thread all posts in that thread are gone, and they do not show up in the members posts, does it also decrease his post count, I never look at mine so I didn't notice... BigBang are you trying to become an admin!
Mumbles
No, the post count isn't reduced.
d4j0n
How exactly do you make sparklers? Based on the look of the compositions, I'd say wet until liquidy and repeatedly coat sticks/wires. But in what would you put the composition?
Draco_Aster
I tried making my own sparklers with dextrin as a binder, not sticky enough. Beautiful effect for what they were though. I might give it a go with gum arabic some time. I always found it to be a joy to work with, just gotta balance the formula/improvise because its a fuel.
d4j0n
Perhaps with dextrin you need multiple coats? How does red gum sound as a binder? Since it's alcohol solulable, it should dry faster, eliminating dripping problems when drying. If I were to use red gum, do I need more or less than that of dextrin? Lol, 20 parts water to 20 parts comp doesn't work out very well. That sparker #14 on the composition list from cannonfuse is whack. Oh well, get more aluminum from the car tomorrow morning. Draco_Aster
Nah, it just coats too thin (yes I do have the mix right) and absorbs the water from the next coat too fast. Needs something more 'sticky'.
weknowpyro
I would think making wire sparklers if the mixture wasn't thick enough u could dip, leave to dry and then dip again but this would be pretty annoying and would take some time. itwasntme
Hey. I bought five pounds of garden sulfur and it is in a very hard prill form. I was using a duct tape bag(and no it is not a bag with duct tape on it might post a tutorial on it) and hammering the sulfur into a powder. When I've hammered it until my arm hurts, it's in powder but theres still little peices of sulfur peices. What am I doing wrong? If I tap the cup, the little peices come to the top and it pisses me off. My dad wont let me get sulfur powder until I've used up that. I tried a coffee grinder but it didn't work. Thanks for any info!

Mumbles
If a coffee grinder didn't work, you have a shitty grinder. Try grinding for longer time.
