Anyone here taken the PSAT?

I took the SAT in June, it was so easy a monkey could pass it, I got a 1910

Embarrasingly enough I do not know the name for the welder, it is either TIG or MIG, it is the type that has a spoole of wire in it, and is connected to an oxygen tank.

If its connected to oxygen its not MIG, MIG uses argon gas, I think it stops the wire from melting to fasts and/or the surface from oxidizing IIRC.

I took the PSAT back in the day. I got a perfect score in math and science and still decent in english and reading. I alsmost got a national merit schollarship. Damn living next to a major university and having to compete with professor's kids.

Must be a TIG then, either way it did the job well at 160 Amps. For welding bits onto the plate I had to pre heat it to 400* C for it to weld propperly. The pins in the ends of the plate were a bitch, I drilled 11.50mm holes, and had to turn down a piece of 12mm bar to 11.55mm and then press fit them in with a hammer, it may not seem hard, but on shitty lathes it is a nightmare.

A 1910.....out of a possible 1600?? Or is it the new SAT which has a possible score of 2400? Still.....not exactly aceing it so it can't have been that easy....

 

Well next week is the County Fair here.... I take a Feeder Calf. Hahahaha we're such a hick town that school closes for the whole week of the county fair. So atleast I'm out of school.....

 

This is my senior year and so far it sucks badly...... I have liked school in the past and was looking forward to ths year. But it sucks so far.....things are all confusing. Turns out my best friend and I are both after the same girl (akward) and other such unpleasantries......

I didn't have saltpeter, so I substituted perc...

I didn't have magnalium, thought aluminum would work.

I didn't have antimony, I used realgar instead.

A full lb, not a 1/2lb, "more is better" is what I said.

My friend gave me the comp, and said it'd really knock my socks off..

That SOB, he must be nuts, it damn near blew my face off !

I don't know how we get such high scores. I do find with the more pyros I talk to, the more and more we all share in common. It's weird. I dunno, I've always been the smart kid. In high school I took it to a new level though and started winning math and science competitions, and stuff like that.

Mumbles, i think that the very nature of pyro draws those who are inquisitive. The average kid goes to a 4th of July fireworks show, sees some pretty colors, hears a few bangs, and goes home satisfied. The pyro, on the other hand, goes home with a hundred questions swirling in his head.

If you aren't willing to learn by your failures, you're out of pyro in short order. Those who learn as much by their failures as by their successes are hooked for life.

I made an order for ascorbic acid. I was wondering if anyone has used golden powder(potassium nitrate/ascorbic acid) as a subsitute for Lift Powder.

Ethanol is for fulimates, not drinking!

 

I've used ascorbic acid as an expiremental reducing agent to reduce picric acid to picramic acid, and it worked wonderfully. Only problem is that it required a 6:1 molar ratio of ASC to TNP. Golden powder, well, I should try. ASC is expensive, however...

Oh, I disagree. I feel you can use ethanol for both uses quite well.

 

Anyway, you should probably be able to use golden powder as lift. They used to use it for bullet propellant charges. It does however produce a lot less flame. It may be smart to light the timefuse with the leader just in case.

Thank you, a nice advantage to living in North Dakota. You may notice that all of my dets are in one area, same crater for that matter. Different filmers and angles every time, though. This was filmed from the top of a vehicle about 200ft away. You notice someone in red standing up after the det, that would be yours truly, 100ft away. I was going to be about 40ft away, but I lost my earplugs. Still left them ringing.

 

Must be my leet Adobe Moviemaker skillz that did the wonderful sound transitions. Movie is 80% more slow, sound is normal.

 

Now, everyone has to guess what it was, and quantity. If I already told you, no telling! Not sure if I told anyone.

Yeah, sucks about that. He was a great Aussie icon, well know around the world, he died doing what he loved though ( I refer to filming a documentary, not being stabbed in the chest by a stingray).

I reckon that its about time that apc had a movie made of everyones stuff. I mean i always love watching a mass of diffrent pyro clips with music. I have made ones of my stuff before but they are never edited very well so if any has a good editing system and is good please say.

Say if anyone would be intrested in this and how we could mass up everyones clips.

 

And im talking about good clips lol , no salutes.

I would happily submit a few decent clips for a compilation vid. I wouldnt mind sticking them together in Movie Maker, but Im sure someones better.

We have done this and it ended up being a long thread of fighting over the music. Chaz started one, but never finished it, Flashzone made one, but it never caught on I spose. Vine made a rather nice one, which is the one which I have at the moment. We just never made one officially for us.

 

RIP Mr. Crikey man, I really did like watching his shows. If I didn't like pyrotechnics and chemistry so much, I probably would have taken up biology. It is sad, the way he died. A stingray for Chissakes! Back when he was first starting the show, my father and I would kid around saying he was going to be bitten in the neck by a mamba, then die. Sad, his heart was broken by what he loved.

 

Too bad for his wife and 2 children, they must be having a pretty hard time.

They pretty much took Steve Erwin and his programs off the air up here after some incident with his child and an aligator. Stupid politics. I enjoyed his shows.
