optimus
Yup - Braniac suck. I suppose the arguament that they're encouraging people to take up the sciences might be slightly valid. Amongst other things, over-zealous health and safety is stopping these kind of experiments being performed in class, even the old 'alarm clock in a bell jar' experiemnt is seldom performed anymore. Apparently it's too dangerous to create a vacuum in a classroom environment. What a load of bullshite. http://www.egovmonitor.com/node/7173/print
Rogue Chemist
1 micron5 micronWhat are these in mesh? 6 micron is 2400 mesh2 micron is 4800 mesh So I guess it is safe to say, that my zirconium powder is really really damn fine.
Mumbles
At this fine, there isn't really an appropriate mesh size. They can say oh, this is "X mesh" or whatever, but anything below 30 microns or so isn't anywhere near accurate enough to be measured by a screen. 625 is as small as they go for the most part. Here, I'll make you a deal, you give me all the zirconium, and I'll tell you how big it is.
Rogue Chemist
Zirconium this fine(1-5 microns) is interesting, it gets very lumpy, I don't know if that is how german dark Al behaves, I have never owned any.I have not even opened the jar yet, I am hoping it is not pyrophoric. Luckily unlike the other reactive metals that are usually used in fine powders, zirconium does not oxidize in air, hopefully it is still good, as it is old stock from 1965. (half full 100g container)I am not normally one for flash powders, but I may whip up some perchlorate and test this stuff out in one. I wish my scale had greater accuracy than 0.1g, making a whole gram of flash with the potential to be really powerfull does not seem like the best idea. EDIT: made some, limiting factor was the mesh of mortar and pestle ground perchlorate. Wow, that is obscenly bright. Even just the combustion of aproximatly 1/4 the size of a .177 BB causes temporary blindness in the centre of my vision, and that is with the UV goggles on. Ozzy
I feel ya my scale only does 1.0 so i made flash pounds at pounds of a time
Doubl3_HeLiX
Where do you guys get your Zirconium powder? Skylighter makes you have to pick it up at the warehouse(which isnt an option for me). So I was wondering where you guys get it if you don't get it from Skylighter.Thanks.
Rogue Chemist
I work at a lab. We cleaned up. Found all sorts of goodies. Hmm, perhaps it is clumpy because it is still damp after all these years, skylighter has theirs under water. Will toss some in the dessicator over CaCl2. s25
I think he is refering to the fact that the accuracy of his scale is 1g as oposed to .1g or somthing.

optimus
erm... You have a scale that weighs in 1 gram increments. You feel this forces you to mix flash in multible lb batches? Surely with this scale you could mix a 10gram batch with good accuracy, or am I missing something here?

d4j0n
I burned some KP coated grass seeds out in the open and it seemed slower than lift...is this right?
Mumbles
Yes. The very fast burn speed comes under pressure. I find a decent way to test is to take a small tube, and "m-80" tube if you will. I glue a plug in one side. I drill a hole in the side and insert a fuse. Then I fill it up with my burst, and slide another plug in(I use paper plugs incase you can't tell). I set it glued plug up and light the fuse. When my burst is decent it will pop the tube 5 or 6 feet in the air
