Not to mention his awesome Clear Eyes commercials. His voice is so monotone, like a robot's. :)

LN2? what is this stuff?

Mice? hate the lil bastards-or more to the point their larger relatives-rats.

my mate had an infestation once a while ago, i she moved now or something. But those rats ate through everything! -i believe my friend tried to kill the rats off with butcher knives or something...that was a sight to behold lol!

Why not freeze mice. It's cruel, it's unusual, it's mad science!

Oh, and I start school in a little less than 12 hours. I had a very annoying summer english project, but I was able to finish it easily. Either way, I'm not very happy to be going back. Atleast I start chemistry this year, so it shouldn't be all too bad ^_^

I've been trying to teach myself how to use Adobe Premiere but it's not working out so well.

The only problem I'm having at the moment is with my audio. For some reason when I import a video clip into Premiere to edit the audio just dissapears, that is, the clip becomes completely silent for some reason.

I did have a month trial version of Ulead VideoStudio 10 and I absolutely loved it. It's simple to use but you can do lots with it. Too bad my trial ran out. I can't find it on Ares or I would just download it. I guess if I really want it I'll just dish out $100.00 to buy it...

I too had an English project this summer for AP English. I had to read three terrible books and do stuff over them. I'm on number three right now. School doesn't start for me until the 21st.

Sucks to be you Bigbang. Here in Michigan they passed a sweet law that makes it so we dont start school until after labor day. Nearly a whole month of break left. And I really want to hear about the PGI convention from Mumbles and whoever else went. I expect a detailed report! :)

A friend of mine kept a little diary thing. I will share it when he is done. He said he got behind, and has to fill in a few days.

I was looking on my MP3 player earlier to see how many tracks I've put on there so far. It turns out that I have exactly 666 tracks!!!

I thought it was kind of funny since 90% of the music on there is metal. :)

I start school 1 week from today. Guys how can teachers give you projects over break? Unless you go to some sort of private school or something?? Or a college maybe but I thought you "BigBang" atleast were in Highschool as well......

Here when school is over...its over no more till the next school year. Also I mean we have different teachers every year so they couldn't give a project over the summer....

I'm guessing I got summer work because it's for an AP class and AP students are expected to work more/harder then regular students, yada yada.

I go to a regular public high school. Nothing special. This year will be the first time I'm taking AP classes. I've also been one year ahead in math since the ninth grade so this year I'll be taking Trigonometry for half a year and Pre - Calculus the other half. I'm slightly scared because math is my weakness. I did have a B average last year for Algebra II, but still, that's not an A.

I'm going to be a Junior this year by the way.

Here's a 1"/2.5"mine cake I lit while on holiday. I'll probably enter it into the competition, but it will be ages before I have the video digitised, so here's a photo:

Mine Cake

The stars are Baechle System 5: Violet and Fe/Ti Lampblack ones which don't really show up on the photo. They went together really well in real life, and you can see both types of stars clearly in the vid...

If I were to obtain a large amount of sodium metal, would anyone be interested in purchasing amounts of 1 oz to 1lb?

If you have a practical way to get some to me, I'd take some. How much depends on price. I'll take up to 8 oz if the price isn't too astronomic.

This needs to be stored, immersed in a hyrocarbon oil, correct? (i.e. kerosene, Jet A, heavy fuel oil, etc.)

Of course, I don't remember where you said you lived. If it's across the ocean, that's a problem. :D

P.S. nice Mine Cake, optimus!

swany, will you be shipping to europe? if yes I would like a 50g or so.

Hmmm well thats definately interesting.... Must just be the way schools are run in the rest of the world. I take the highest classes available by my school. Some of them are AP but most are not....my school only offers two classes that are AP and they are the science classes (I've already taken AP Chemistry 2 which is as high as it goes for chem ;) ).

But all my classes are college prep which is the highest my school offers aside from AP chem and I think AP Psychology... Math is my weakness as well.... My average jumps around a good deal per grading periods. Sometimes A sometimes B and one period last year....a C  Its kinda funny that I can do the math if its in chemistry but when I get to math class my mind goes blank!! My main problem is I'm kinda....the stereotypical class clown type. When I'm not just sleeping which is what I normally do during classes especially math, I am annoying the teachers and making everyone laugh. Its funny though because all my teachers always like me even though I give them a hard time....I can get away with anything in there classes, stuff that any other student would be punished for in a heartbeat!!

I'll be a Senior this year. I guess thats what I get for going to a small school!! But I'll be fine with no summer projects!

Sidewinder: I live about 500 miles west of you, give or take a few miles. Mother is naturally doing her best to veto an aquisition of many pounds of sodium, so it may take a while. Hopefully, I will have it in time for PGI next year, if that (not on the grounds, of course) is where I would exchange it with a number of peoples.

I am afraid it would be too much trouble to ship overseas.

I wouldent mind having some Na to play with. Tell me how much you want for 50-100g. I made some CuNO3 to day...The orange it stained my hand looks good wth the purple the AgNO3 did :)

Yes, well, I am in some accelerated course, or some such, so the teachers all know eachother, and knows the curriculum. This allows them to assign whatever the hell they want as a summer project, if you choose to continue with the courses. Sadly, it is only the english teachers whom are assenine enough to assign things.

I will be a sofmore, aka 10th grade, aka 2 years before university. My strong suites are math and science, with math being just as easy as science for me. I am in algebra II honors right now, and am already pwning. I am pretty confident I'll get As, so I will be taking pre-calculus next semester. I'm skipping trig because I have someone tutoring me in it now, sort of.

Atleast I'm taking physics I and chemistry I this semester, so I have that gives me two more easy classes. I am a sleeper aswell, but I wake up to correct or answer, and confuse the class. Meh, all in good fun...

Optimus: Very nice colo(u)r, would you mind posting the violet in the composition section. It is AP based, or KP? One thing though, you might want to use some smaller stars, since yours burned all the way to the ground. Maybe half the size they are now. That is, unless you wanted that effect.

To the Na wanters: If/when he recieves it, expect the price to be 20-40 USD per pound. He'll tell you the final, but that is what he was guestimating yesterday.

Probably more, and mom veto'd, so it will be a while.

Well, I just packed up my entire lab for the end of the summer and going back to school. :(

It took me like 4 hours to pack all the chems in boxes, I forgot really how much stuff I had acummulated over the years. I divided up the HE chems, the fuels, and the oxidisers into a few different boxes.

Also I got my order from pyroal in and its good shit!

As well as my cannon fuse.com order of fuse and stuff and for the first time seeing flying fish fuse up close, I really like it, its a really cool effect.

In other news, I have to leave again for college on thursday. I am not really looking forward to going back, because I wont be home again for a while. Probably not even next summer, because Ill be down by school at an internship and in an apt, which will be fun in itself.

Swany,

Can't say as I blame your Mom, really. Sodium is a bit dicey to handle, after all.

And putting it OUT if it catches fire is problematic, if not impossible, with household materials. The Fire Department (at least here) would be asking RATHER pointed questions if they had to put it out for you.

Next year's PGI would be fine with me. I have to get a suitable chem storage shed built this Fall, anyway. My garage is full of unrelated crap, and I want to store them properly sorted by type (Oxidizers, Fuels, Metals, etc) before I add something like Sodium to the mix. :D

Add me to your "definite" list for 4 oz. I will probably take twice that, though, if you get it.

Well if you dont get projects you gotta be pretty lucky, our maths teacher gaves a chapter to learn by ourselves. it on integrating to find the centre of mass of various 3d objects-joy! <_< though we do get good holidays, dont have to be in school again until spetembre sometime.

heh heh i hate rats though apparently you cant be 6 feet away from one at any given time or something like that cos they're everywhere!-even if ive only ever seen one in my life and that was like 5 years ago.

It is a nice colour isn't it! It's the best I've created yet, but I'm sure it could be tweaked a little to make it even better. I did deliberately make the stars too big because I knew they would be fired on a beach, and I quite like the effect of them burning on the sand... Still, they burnt even slower than I thought they would.

Comp is now in the composition section.

A rule of thumb is to start out at 1 inch...

Thanks alot there doctor boom, thats helpfull, but Im still looking for somthing that is a little more reliable thatn just trial and error.

Ive finally decided to ask someone about a question that has been bugging me for ages, and Im sure its bugging alot of other people too.

Lithium, the reactivity series and the electrochemical series. Whats happening with lithium? In the electrochemical series it is the most

electropositive, but then on the reactivity series its not. What ive read has lead me to believe that these two series are based on different conditions. But what actually leads to the different placement of lithium, and other metals for that matter. And also, in what situation would I use the reactivity series or electrochemical series? If I were to add elemental lithium to a sodium chloride solution (lets just ignore that the sodium would react with the water for a moment), would this precipitate elemental sodium and give a lithium chloride solution? or would that reaction call for the reactivity series?

Edit: Oh yeah swany, I think his mom should set her priorities straight. Shes not letting you have sodium, yet you go making NG and doing dets?!

Cs is the most electropositive IIRC.

Its either Cs or Fr..... I would want to say Fr but I'm not sure.

My 5th grade teacher told me a story that he used to do sodium in water demonstrations for science classes. He always tossed little chunks in a bucket of water.... Well one day the students convinced him to try a bigger piece so he threw like a pound of it in. It exploded and showered the room with burning Na pieces. Well he didn't think about it and told a student to go get a mop.... When he wen to clean it up/put it out of course it burst the whole room into flames!!!

I believe it is Fr, I once saw a demonstration of the effects of these, They tested all the reactive metals up to Cs (which blew up the tub *yes bathtub*). They said Fr was even more powerful than Cs and thus they were not actually going to demonstrate it.
