Chaz Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Pyrohawk, I've had trouble with it for the past month or something. Not to worry, there'll be an alternate place for all your hosting needs soon... What does everything think about the 'X thread pages 10 to 20' thing? We did it on the old forum because when you used to post a reply the entire thread would be shown for reference, which kinda sucked. This software only shows the last 10, so we dont really need to do it any more. I think it would be easier than having to dig up the old threads, and we should just keep discussion of a topic in its own, single thread. What about everyone else?
FrKoNaLeaSh1010 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 I think if anything it seems most logical to keep it all in one thread. If what you say is true about it only showing the last ten posts then there is no need to create the new thread and it would be easier for reference to look up the "aerial shells thread" compared to trying to find a specific post or piece of info in 4 or 5 different threads that all have to do with the same thing. If anything....you could just up the page limit to say 25 or even 50. There should be some sort of limit but a lot higher than 10.....we dont need 237 page random threads for instance....
justanotherpyro Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Random thread is a good idea. The only problem is that if something of worthwhile gets brought up in the random thread and draws alot of discussion it is lost. So if something is brought up in the random thread and is worthy of in depth discussion then it should be made into a thread in the appropriate section.
Mumbles Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Lucky you guys, we now have two new moderation tools. They are known as "split" and "merge". We can take specific posts from here, and transfer them to their own thread, or into an already existing thread. This would be useful if something of importance comes out. By the way, the posts per page, and threads per page are all user customiseable. The default is 20 posts per page, and I think 25 threads per page. Perhaps we could start a new thread once one reached say 2,000 posts? That would be 100 pages on the default. I would personally like to see less reliance on the random thread. People see to use it as a topic starter if they are too scared to start a full thread.
h0lx Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Actually you could enlarge the amount of posts per page to 50 or 100.. less clicking and better for 56Kers too.
Pyrohawk Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 If you have the money go out and get high speed camera, one that takes like 30 frames per second. Even then youll miss sometimes. But the best thing I could reccomend is if you got an actual video camera, not one of the cameras that takes videos. Aren't the easyshares just cameras that take videos? If not disregard that last note, but still, get a decent camera and youll be fine.Heck if I had money to get a better camera I would have already done it! Your right the Kodak easyshares are just camera's that take videos..... Oh well I'll try to borrow one. I just hoped one of you might have an idea of how to fix the problem.... I am looking for a formula for colored streamers. Such as red, green, and blue streamers! So if anyone has a comp. or any input on these stars please speak up!!
XinE895 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Is anyone here in the United States Air Force? If you are, i wana talk to you.
evilgecko Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I agree the number of posts per page should be increased so you spend less time sifting though posts to get your info and you could use the search text function of your browser to find relevant stuff (not that I suggest you don't use the forum search button, that button is your third eye!).
Kilo_G Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I would personally like to see less reliance on the random thread. People see to use it as a topic starter if they are too scared to start a full thread.I gotta disagree. I think the random thread is fine. Seems people have finally caught onto the idea of if you've got a question ask it here first. Do you remember when everyone was starting a new thread for every question they had (I believe including me too when I first came here)? Then again personally people starting new threads for no good reason even though it's already been gone over 1,000 times doesn't bother me.....Kinda like rec.pyro without the talking down to everyone that comes along. Never really understood why a person couldn't start a thread for every question they had. The world may never know.
Mephistos Minion Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 On the topic of cameras; I finally remembered to get mine back off the woman. I went looking for a 200 fps+ camera only to find that I would have to fork out $7500+ for just the camera ($1-2000 more for the lenses). Does anyone else recall the video of a 3" D1 glitter shell done by rooster? I am fairly sure it was rooster. Either way the camera seemed like a somewhat decent one for filming fireworks. Perhaps he could enlighten us as to the make/model of the device... Also dose anyone know a movie format that goes at 30fps? That is what my camera shoots at and I don't like the shitty quality of my .wmv converted videos which are 25fps.
justanotherpyro Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 At least you guys have cameras. I want one really bad. Hello tax return.
Mumbles Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 NTSC goes at 30fps. Well, technically 29.97 or something like that. A Divx file or mpeg, or something like that with NTSC standards should do just fine. You are converting with PAL standards. This makes sense because you are in a PAL format country.
Kilo_G Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I have a FUJIFILM S602z digital camera. It's excellent. A little big but does more than everything I need it to do. It also films fireworks very well. I only have a 128meg card in it but if I put a gig card in it can take like 1/2 hour of video. I think the price for it (now) in America is around $350 to $400.
BigBang Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 At least you guys have cameras. I want one really bad. Hello tax return. I'm with you on that, except for the tax returns. I need a camera instead of having to ask a friend who seems to break his alot. cough, thathad2hurtbad, cough. I'm starting to get bored about now and want to give waterfalls a try. Does the United Nuclear tutorial work fairly good? I have the chems needed for these so I wouldn't mind giveing them a shot. And I remember seeing a glitter waterfall comp in an old random thread, I think posted by mumbles, does anyone know of any "exotic" fall such as this?
Swany Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 The only reason I want to avoid waterfalls is because they use too much money. Where chemicals are directly co-related to money. I love titanium flakes. I love kilo's tubes. 3/4 of my last posts have included my love for both of these. I have a decent digi-cam, and a camcorder, my dad decided to get both. He uses the camera loads, but the camcorder less. I use it for my... needs.
justanotherpyro Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I have to borrow my brothers camera when I want to film anything. Its rather annoying. I will be soon looking for a camera suitable for taking pyro video. Does anyone have anny suggestions of possibily cameras? A camera that takes good video and gives a good look to fireworks, and is in the $150-$200 range.
Draco_Aster Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 http://www.dpreview.com/news/0501/05010505oly_c5500sz.asp Thats my camera. I looooove it. It even has a completely seperate mode for fireworks. 2" monitor helps alot too Takes videos at 30fps and 15fps. Images sizes- • 2592 x 1944• 2592 x 1728 (3:2) • 2288 x 1712• 2048 x 1536• 1600 x 1200• 1280 x 960• 1024 x 768• 640 x 480 For something a little cheaper http://www.dpreview.com/news/0601/06012605olympus_fe150.asp
XinE895 Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I know of a very good glittering waterfall, Mumbles did post it in reply to my question about cool waterfall comps. KNO3 52Antimony Trisulfide 14Barium Carbonate 10Charcoal Airfloat 10Sulfur 7Aluminum Atomized 7 It works very very well, and falls a good distance; Cheap too. I did a comparison of different waterfall comps, I need to edit the videos and post them but I've been busy lately. I have 12 tubes packed with this comp that I need to string and light, Hopefully I will do this soon. The UN comp for waterfalls is kinda neat, you can hardly notice anything happening at the tube, but it drops bright white sparks. But there not very dense so you would need a couple to tubes to make a good effect. I say give them both a try, if you need any Barium Carbonate PM me, i have 2 or 3 pounds I could get rid of.
BigBang Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Your post in the old random thread is what got me started to think about waterfalls again. I was going to make them, but got bored, and built some rockets instead. Then when you started talking about them again, I thought I might give it a shot. I have some Ba carbonate on its way right now, so once it's in, I'll give that one a shot. I was also thinking, I have a bunch of microstars, colored and crackling, so why not make a "matrix waterfall?" Might not be too good with the colors but the dragon eggs might be a nice addition.
justanotherpyro Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I always thought a cool effect for a rocket would be a waterfall after the burn is complete. A rocket that would burn regularly, and then after reaching its appogee, would fall to the ground with a waterfall comp burning to 50 feet above the ground. I don't do many rockets though. City limts and bad experiences.
kbk Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Well I've been sick all day today, which sucks pretty bad. We were going to set up the still today, we bought all the necessary items for it. Should be pretty sweet if/when we get it running. Not sure where we are going to put it though, if anyone has ideas about where we could put it, let me know.
Pyrohawk Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Ok, I got a question.... I always clear my history and deleet cookies and such. Well it erases the history of al the websites I've been to except for a few... The old apcforum for instance... No matter what I do when I type www.x into the box a couple pages from the apc show up, even after I've cleared history! Another page that always shows up is for some reason a page from Chaz's host for Roosters D1 glitter video! Any idea as to whats going on? I want these things off my computer!
PyroPicasso Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If they are saved as favorites they will do that.
evilgecko Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Software programmers realised everyones got something to hide and released a free program called internet eraser (downloadable of downloads.com), that erases everything if you tell it do do so. But it is fully customizable so you can select it to delete certain things so you can still retain cookies that help you log onto sites. Suits everyone from the occasional R18 site viewer to the paranoid "there is people watching you" type!
Rogue Chemist Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I got ahold of steganos internet anonymous on the roguesci ftp a while back. It does that as well as having a non-static proxy(really slow though) and stuff like "free space cleaner" and ways to delete files which overwrite them several times before being deleted. It is of course overkill for only deleting old porn CCleaner is also a nice program to have. You would be surprised how much shit gets on your comp during normal net browsing. It deletes these temp files totalling almost half a gig sometimes
