Canadian_Pyro
Oh Shit... I was just playing with a new batch of Alder charcoal BP (this stuff is INSANE) in my backyard, firing random objects into the air. Due to the low wind level, they usually fell right back down into my yard. When I saw the golf ball sitting there, it was if it was asking me to send it on a flight into the sky. I ignited the fuse, and a moment later there was a loud POP and the golf ball disappeared from sight. I ducked into the garage, just in case. About 10-15 seconds later, I heard the shattering of glass and an angry yell coming from a house down the street. Crap! Should have used better judgement! That is the last time I test pyro stuff in my backyard!
TheSidewinder
When they come and bitch at you, just swear it was an errant Golf shot and it won't happen again, blah, blah, blah... M

justanotherpyro
Haha, everyone has been in that boat before. Except most people just hit the ball a little too hard with the bat, us pyros just shot it a little to hard out of a cannon
ewest
Canadian_Pyro, just do what I do. Wait until your neighbor leaves, then sneak into his backyard to test things. LOL, my whole neighborhood thinks he's the pyro.
optimus
Can anyone tell me roughly how long I can expect to store some BP fountains made with uncoated iron filings before they start to degrade?
TheSidewinder
Outdoors in humid weather? Less than a week. Inside dry and cool? I wouldn't store longer than a few weeks anyway, but I think you're going to get differing opinions. Were all the chems good and dry to start with? That will make a difference, too. ewest
I've never stored them longer than a few days, but a book I have says uncoated iron in a BP fountain won't last longer than a month. It's going to start oxidizing as soon as you make it if you don't coat the iron.
FrKoNaLeaSh1010
Well I've had bp fountains with iron or possibley steel filings sitting on a shelf in my room since last fourth of july....havn't tried to light any but they dont seem to have changed in physical appearance and smell. Rooster
Haha, great story, and no traces back to you. Better than a dud salute landing there, that would be unpleasant...
RUUUUUN
I am taking it the window was a skylight, hard luck. I don't know if I am going to be able to do much pyro this summer, last summer I lit the woods on fire with some commercial roman candles. I should be able to do High explosvies all summer, and if I have a problem I will just detonate them under water, blast dry hot weather, and people wonder why I like the rain
Canadian_Pyro
I am in the market for a new digital scale, but I cannot decide which one to get. I am attempting to decide between these two: http://i7.ebayimg.com/02/i/07/18/12/2a_1_b.JPG and http://i1.ebayimg.com/03/i/07/1a/a4/59_1_b.JPG Anything good or bad about either scale? If someone could help me decide that would be great.
justanotherpyro
Well, its hard to tell with just a picture . Write the stats of each one. Price, maximum weight, accuracy etc...
Mumbles
Or even the brand name and model number would be very helpful. Off looks alone, I would take the black one. I just prefer the readout in front over on the side.
Canadian_Pyro
They have identical stats and the black one is $2 more. Both weigh up to 500g, and have 0.1 gram accuracy. The decision is based on looks now I guess.
Pyrohawk
Come on folks!! I need a review of a good firework videoing digital camera! None of the internet reviews say how well the camera videos fireworks colors.... You guys are the only people who would know what camera is good for my purpous!! I'm leaning towards a Kodak C340 but I dunno....my Kodak CX7300 takes crappy videos, especially of fireworks!
Draco_Aster
http://www.olympusimaging.com.au/servlet/p...7688191627.html Do a few searches for that camera. Thats what I have and it takes greta photos and video (60fps) of fireworks. It even has a "fireworks' mode.
PsychoChem
I don't know if this was posted yet, but if anyone orders from Skylighter, Harry is charging you an extra 5% of your total order (in my case, we spent like 408 dollars and ended up getting an extra surcharge of 20.29 or something) and donating it to the Fireworks Foundation thing for the Firefox suit. I was going to donate anyway but this made it easier, though I imagine some people might be angry if they donated and they MANDATORILY get surcharged again. Just letting you know (if it wasn't already said)
ewest
Well, for photos and videos of fireworks I use an Olympus Stylus Verve 4 megapixel digital camera. It sucks and I hate it, so don't buy one of those. As for the cameras you mentioned, I know nothing about them, but if they take good videos of fireworks, let us know. Rogue Chemist
What would be the best use to put a small ammount of powdered zirconium to? I remember reading its used in ignitors. Anyone have some really exotic compositions?(for anything involving zirconium, not just ignitors). Due to zirconium being not so easy to obtain I have not been able to find much on it. Only found one flash composition, but that also requires zirconium hydride, which I likely cannot get. Burns nicer than magnalium, or neodymium for that matter. Canadian_Pyro
Well I just bought the black scale, I decided that the front readout is better, plus the other one looked kinda cheesy...
