Mumbles Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 To be able to get you, you must have premade devices there. There are some regulatons on chemicals, but they need to be bulk I think before you need to report them, As far as the flash, I would say it was a big buildup of pressure. Same thing that happens inside shells. The burst in the open doesn't burn all that fast. In a shell though the pressure really increases the burn rate.
Guest pyrokid00000 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Thats good becuase i dont have any premade devices at this time. All the chemicals i have are in about 5 pound quanitys. Another thing i just received my new ball mill today and the damn drums are rubber. They are not real soft actually kind of strong. Does this matter?
asilentbob Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Well i have to take the AP Chemistry exam in a couple days and i am not prepared, im estimating a 3, but im about to study my ass off here and hopefully bump it up a bit. Aside from that i finally made some decent black match, it burns evenly, but slowly. I also made some more stars so now i probably have about 2lbs total of blue organic and red metallic stars, i just have to prime them. I also corned some of my meal, but im thinking ill just get my dad to buy some pyrodex for me to use as lift becasue my meal is not that great, i havn't tested my corned meal yet thought, but i don't really have much, so after testing (ground burn and determineing how much i should use as lift) i would probably have enough for 6 (i think 2-3/4" plastic shells). I havn't decided if ill use flash or benzoate whistle for the break yet. I need more KNO3. deleted
Mumbles Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 The AP chem test isn't hard. I got a 5, and I didn't even take AP chem. That may not mean much to you guys, but it really isn't that bad. Anyway, I removed the HE stuff. We are going to try to keep that only in the HE section.
asilentbob Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Oh, ok understood. I jumped from regular chemistry to AP Chem without taking pre-AP and i never took pre-calculus, so some of the math is over my head and i have been having a hard time on memorizing some of the equations and constants. Also my understanding of the math related to calculating reaction rate and electrochemistry stuff is like null. However, my reaction prediction and general knowledge of compounds is great. (thanks mainly to pyro and chem induced reading) All in all i think its the equations and some of the variables for them.
Pyrohawk Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I'm in AP Chemistry 2 and could have taken the AP chem test. But when I asked my counselor to give it to me he said he didn't think it was wise.... He said think about it, if your that advanced in chemistry to begin with.....why skip your introduction to it in college? You can always use a good brush up on the basics and if you know all the stuff your grades are gonna be great and will raise your GPA! So he said he would give me it if I wanted but he recommended not, so I didn't.
mr.pyro Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Take the test and skip as many college courses as possible, I know basic chem here is a PITA. Its easy but its just a lot of unnessecary work. I mean our first lab was "Intro to Measurement." Learning how to use scales and glassware while measuring sand and water in full lab coats, goggles, masks, the works... It sucked.
d4j0n Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I dont want to know for paintballing. I wanted to know because I wanted to make a bb or airsoft machine gun. There are plenty of plans out there but they are all powered by huge air compressors. I want to be able to take these things around. Now would anybody here know how to regulate these things to say 250-300 psi? I'm not well versed on the super doohikies that can do this but if one of you could just give me a name and maybe a cheap location to buy them I'd be happy. I tried looking on ebay for a co2 regulator but all I turned up was expansion chambers. And remote lines. Edit: Does anyone know anything about flashcotton? Or Flash paper.I believe he wanted to know about airsoft, not paintball. You can try to find an "electric" type gun (they may be listed as AEG's on ebay though no where near what an AEG should be) at least 200 fps for like 20-60 dollars. If you really want an airsoft "machine gun," you're probably better off with a cheaper AEG (muari) if you're trying to save money. $250-$300...still high quality stuff thatll last years just not full metal.don't know if that's cheaper than building one or not. I've seen plans for pvc type strafer guns online somewhere before...it was the same site where the guy who made the paintball co2 canister + electric powered vulcan minigun (electric spun the barrels, co2 canister shot the bb's) that tore apart a tv with couple thousand metal 6mm bb's.http://www.montysminiguns.com/AirSoftPage.htm *edit: nevermind, I'm thinking of another site. Still a cool site though with the tv carnage video. By the way, if you life in California or have similar laws, cops can ding you for posessing anythign they consider a "firework kit," including chemicals, tubes, fuses, etc. Just be careful. I sure don't have the balls to do anything in my backyard besides bp tests, star tests, small smokes, and cooking charcoal. Basically only stuff that makes pretty much no sound.
Frozentech Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Last night, inspired by a great rocket from Painter and a 6 pack of beer, I come up with this: (Apologies to Willie Nelson) to the tune of "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" Mama don't let your babies grow up to be pyro'sDon't let 'em shoot rockets and light them salutesDon't let em talk bullshit that's high as your boots.Mama don't let your babies grow up to be pyro'sThey'll just play with thier 'toys' and make freakin' loud noise'n track charcoal all over the rug. Pyro's ain't easy to love and they're harder to pleaseThey'll spend the whole paycheck on mail order from Harry G.GOEX Black Powder and fine mesh magnalium and each night they light up the skyIf you don't like fireworks, and he don't die youngHe'll probably just say "goodbye" Mama don't let your babies grow up to be pyro'sDon't let 'em shoot rockets and light them salutesDon't let em talk bullshit that's high as your boots.Mama don't let your babies grow up to be pyro'sThey'll just play with thier 'toys' and make freakin' loud noise'n track charcoal all over the rug. Pyro's like smokey old mortars and long hang-time glitterCrossettes and hummers and fountains of flames in the nightThem that don't know him won't trust himAnd them that do sometimes won't know how to take him.He ain't nuts he's just different,This hobby will make him do things neighbors think just ain't right. rocket Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Not bad I must say, I’ve heard “Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” many a time on GTA San Andreas.
d4j0n Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Is it ok if I don't completely finish cooking charcoal and then finish later?
BigBang Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 It shouldn't affect it badly, I've seen it done that way without any adverse effects. Just be careful not to overcook it. Now, holy crap. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a367/PantFire/hair.jpghttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a367/PantFire/hair2.jpg Pure evil I say. It goes everywhere, and into my lungs! All from this one little pup. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a367/PantFire/specks2.jpg Five minutes with a comb and I got that huge hairball. It is only half of what will come off.
Mumbles Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Well, it is about time for shedding. I don't really notice anymore. It seems like my dog sheds about the same rate constantly. Sometimes I think it is a miracle she isn't bald.
Zeppelin Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 My new extremely ghetto mill:http://i2.tinypic.com/xdds9l.jpg Made of a length of pvc pipe, 2 paint rollers, one matchbox and a fan. Amazingly, it works quite well. It picks up speed slowly, but gets going pretty fast. We will see if it mills well tomorrow.
PyroJoe Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Hahaha!! That is the most ghetto ball mill I have ever seen! That is awesome! I love the enginuity. That ladies and gentlemen, shows how far a pyro will go to get good quality black powder and chemicals.
Mumbles Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I challenge the claim of most ghetto ball mill with this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v137/Mumbles/P6100028.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v137/Mumbles/P6100026.jpg I got bored one night and my ball mill wasn't working. This one worked like shit, but it makes for some interesting conversation now.
Kilo_G Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I have to dispute your claim Mumbles and only for one reason, your ball mill was born out of bordon, his was born out of neccesity (spelling? I'm drunk). I gotta say he's taking the cake so far.
dragonman586 Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Besides you actually took the effort to remove the motor for where it came. His motor is still on the fan. And your rollers aren't dollar store paintrollers. Ghettoness goes to zeppelin.
Pretty green flame Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Mumbles, why do you have holes drilled in those bricks. Strange.
rocket Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Most bricks I’ve seen have holes like that, they are molded that way.
Zeppelin Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I must say, that is a pretty ghetto mill, but I think mine still wins. It is incredible that this thing actaully works well. it doesnt wobble too bad but it picks speed up slowly. On the other side of the mill the endcap is a "fine grind" coffee lid. Very fitting for its new purpose.
ULTRABUF Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 http://www.tourettesguy.com Its the funniest videos Ive ever watched. Normally, people with tourettes dont swear alot, but this particular dude is different because he also happens to be an angry drunk. You should watch all the videos because theyre all pretty funny.
Mumbles Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 All I have to say is "shoebox". By the way, the fan motor was already out. I also don't see how neccesity, nor bordem would play in here.
PyroPicasso Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Does anyone know where you can order spanish style plastic shells inside the US?
Rogue Chemist Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Not gonna take sides, both have interesting uh...characteristics...Zepplin leaving the back fan guard in place is hilarious. , and of course Mumbles with all the cardboard ... Not a ball mill, but still pretty improvised...https://sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread....=3056&pid=36201
