NightHawkInLight
Cool videos 50. I haven't played many video games in a long while, but I've started killing an hour or so after work with half-life 1 the last few days. I tend to go most of the year without playing any games until a good one is released, then I'm dead to the outside world until I've burned through it. Such a thing might happen next week with the release of Deus Ex 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAio1dpebJA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV5XHPBRv18
50AE
After changing the op amp of my X-fi sound card, I managed to change the power decoupling cap with Elna silmic 2, which I just received today! The card sounds awesomeee! I'll let the cap burn in for a few hours and then check it later.I also ordered panasonic FCs for the voltage regulator decoupling caps and low noise voltage regulators. NightHawkInLight
Got an official email from the ATF today regarding some explosives licensing information. The agent thought it appropriate to include an animated smiley face that repeatedly blew itself to bits . Good to know they have a sense of humor! Defiant Pyro
What's up everyone.. I haven't been to this site is so long. I haven't done anything pyro related in awhile and am thinking about starting up again. I still look at youtube videos almost everyday and man it sure does have me missing the hobby. Givat
Hi guys,I'm building a 5" mine. the stars/comets in it weigh 650 gram (including the piston).how much lift do you think I should use? (I use 1/11 or 1/12, lift/shell weigh, in shells)
NightHawkInLight
Depends what you want the mine to do, burn out while still rising, or let the stars droop at the end for a horsetail effect? The same amount you use for shells should result in the first option.
Givat
Thanks NightHawk, I used 1/10 of lift for the mine, just to be sure.BTW, I used your piston method in all the mine smaller than 3"...very easy to do =] Tomorrow me are going to have a pyro meeting in Israel, here is the staff I made:http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h479/questl/P1010802.jpg This is: 4 * 0.5" whistle rocket + 1.5" shell headers.6 * 0.5" BP rocker +1.5" shell headers2" mine cake (4 mines different color)3" mine with C6 stars and 6 * 1.5" shell inside3" mine with C6 stars and 6 setine.5" mine with C6 stars, green comets and 10 silver spiners.3 * fountains - middle is 3/4" whistle+Ti, 2 side fountains are 3/4" BP+steel fountain.4 * 3" round shell.3" italian shell with 6 setine and bottom shot. NightHawkInLight
I had no idea you were in Israel Givat, it's so cool how widespread this pyro bug is throughout the world. How many people are attending your shoot?
Givat
It's harder to do pyro here, one can think you are a terorist :SSo our community is smaller, in this meeting there will be about 20 people I guess.
NightHawkInLight
Very nice, 20 people doesn't sound too small at all for a place where you can't build fireworks openly. On another note, I've been working on another song cover recently. I tend to practice a lot by recording myself to see how it sounds, figured I'd upload one of the better takes, though it's still pretty rough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfopx-JLEKM

asilentbob
Went to the American Chemical Society (ACS) National meeting that was in Denver, CO a couple weeks back now. Carpooled with a friend. If not for both of us wanting to go, neither of us would have gone. It was massive. It was in a VERY large convention center. So large that after we had thought we had seen most of it, we realized it was really about 4x bigger and we just hadn't had any talks to go to in the other parts. Very formal and professional compared to other conventions I have been to like PGI. There were tons of things to do all the time. Too many things to do perhaps. The listing of technical talks and poster sessions in the convention guide was 126 pages alone. Sooooooooo many times for things overlapped. If I was only interested in the offerings of a single division, say the division of colloid and surface chemistry for example... then it would be easy to catch everything... but I'm interested in sooooo many divisions... and many single random talks that are not really part of a division I find interesting normally. So I ended up missing tons of stuff that I really wanted to see. As did my friend. Overall I'd have to say that the poster sessions and the expo were the most "fun" for me. Got to talk to a lot of interesting people about interesting ideas at the poster sessions. Got to learn about various instruments and companies and such at the expo as well as getting some free swag. However some of the technical talks were really cool too. Right now most of it is blurring together. Part of the appeal of the trip is that we planned to go through Los Alamos, NM on the way back. There is a very cool surplus shop there that used to buy the old equipment from the lab whenever the lab upgraded its instruments and such. Its called The Black Hole. I may have mentioned it here before, I can't remember. Anyways, some of the really good stuff has been bought up now, but there was still tons of really interesting junk. We only had about 2-1/2 hours to spend there and a limited budget each, so we didn't get much. Its kind of like a geek pilgrimage though, the experience is more important for me. I got a DC generator and a small flawless Dewar flask, both for waaayyyyyy less than they are worth. Some of the people with posters in the poster sessions happened to work at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), so we got some good suggestions for where to eat and such. Lots of driving... but not as bad as I first thought it would be. I need to find people to get to join ACS (and pay their dues) so I can get some free periodic table blankets... Peret
I know of The Black Hole - very cool store. There are a number of surplus stores in NM with interesting stuff. I picked up a bunch of geiger counters at a store in Albuquerque for $10 each once. I figured if I waited until I needed one, it would be too late . I proved they worked with the assistance of one of the women in my office who was being treated for thyroid cancer with radioactive iodine.
