I took Spanish from 5th through 10th grade. I'm kinda rusty, though...

I think I have found a new calling--going to lesbian bars and breaking hearts laugh2.gif. I'll post pics later of me dressed as a woman for a play.

This is why I have no living space. Whenever I go out to purchase some single item I come home with a car loaded till the rear bumper scrapes.

Today I went out to pick up a drill press from a fellow pyro (been a long time coming), then tacked on 5 lbs of dark Al, 3 lbs of dextrin, a star gun, and a 5' Fresnel lens. Now I'm starting to think I need to go back for a 20 ton press and a cement mixer. A new shed may be on the agenda for this summer...I'm happy to have the stuff, but I've got no place for it.

Anyway, I'm also trying some new designs for rocket tooling and I believe I've come up with the winner today. We'll see.

What use do you have for a 5 foot Fresnel lens? Are you building a lighthouse?

I plan to...Melt things I guess  It's like a WMD against ants! Maybe I'll just sell it. I'm sure there are plenty of young guys out there that would love to get their hands on a 5' magnifying glass. I already have another that's about 3.5', I might get rid of that and keep the upgrade. I've thought about using one to heat a small boiler to power a generator. A big project likely with mediocre results, but it would be fun to try.

I pounded it off a giant TV on the side of the road while driving home. Can't beat free.

know it alls all ways love to say there is lots of potassium in bananas ash and ammonium nitrate or calcium nitrate would work (with different processing techniques required for both) but bananas would be a very poor OTC way

Isn't there a high amount of some strontium isotope in Brazil nuts? All we have to do is move to Brazil, and we can soon have an unlimited supply of Sr(NO3)2!!

Anyways, I thought I would share this ridiculous tidbit I found in the local newspaper:

""A New Jersey teenager who was severely injured by fireworks his friend bought in Pennsylvania is now suing the store, the manufacturer, and the friend who brought them across state lines illegally.""

Apparently a mortar misfired, sending a tennis-ball sized shell into his face, causing permanent damage.

This is the lawyer's statement: ""These stores are located in Pennsylvania, but they are not allowed to sell fireworks to Pennsylvania residents. Yet anyone with a New Jersey drivers license can walk in the door and buy thousands of dollars' worth of extremely dangerous products. Because of this, Thomas Eldershaws' life was forever changed on the Fourth of July, and every year it's the same sad story--on a national holiday that is supposed to be a celebration, New Jersey youth are senselessly maimed, even killed.""

Welp, looks like we need to ban cars and car dealerships. Anyone with a New Jersey drivers license can walk in and buy thousands of dollars worth of extremely dangerous products... every year it's the same sad story--New Jersey youth are senselessly maimed, even killed.

I am just glad that I don't have (hopefully) vindictive friends like this guy.

Just typical ambulance-chasing lawyer exaggeration. These scumbags would call Mother Teresa a child molester if they thought it would help enrich them. Unfortunately it makes nice sensational copy for the papers, and the firework haters will whip it up further. He's just posturing - probably the kid doesn't have any money nor liability insurance, hence he's having a go at the store and manufacturer to make his contingency fee. Unfortunately it will cost them a bundle to defend, even if they win.

One might observe that if it weren't for nanny-state laws preventing us from doing what we could all do freely when I was a kid, kids today might be sufficiently familiar with fireworks to know not to lean over a hangfire and stare down the tube. I hear on good authority that firearms are still permitted in New Jersey, but we don't often hear of New Jersey youth being hurt and maimed by looking down the barrel of a gun to watch the bullet come out.

I would like to hear some personal responsibility from the kid. It says right on the directions "light fuse and get away."

Let's see: I just lit the fuse that will ignite a shell which is propelled out of the mortar at very high speeds. It probably isn't a good idea to put your face over the mortar.

I just love how the article tries to blame the fireworks.

I think i totally knocked out my meat grinder today. It's made from somewhat brittle cast iron. A few months ago, I broke its lever while trying to grind MgAl, now I broke the axle while urgently grinding charcoal using a pipe wrench as lever...

Looking good so far. What sort of sieve do you have in mind for the top of the form? I hope you have a good water compatible vacuum source.

This vacuum cleaner has huge suction! It broke a huge edge of my mold! It sucks more than enough pulp in a matter of a second.

I recast the broken edge now, gonna redrill it tomorrow when the resin has cured, and I will try again with much less suction.

But I can say - it works! The hemis are nicely formed. And they hold on quite well when wet.

Edit: Mumbles, I'm using fabric from a lady sock as "sieve", it works good enough.

Edit2: My first hemi has dried. It's not perfect, mainly because the mold broke. But it gives you an idea. The paper mulch is mainly newspapers and a little recyclated kraft. I must say it is quite strong, maybe because I added lots of wheat paste.

They looks great 50. That'll be quite a thing when you start pumping out 12"ers in a matter of seconds ;)

Well look at that, I'm a firebreather. I apologize to everyone for droning on for 1,000 posts. Who would have imagined I could spew nonsense for so long

If even he wont pass it on, you're not getting it. Chances are if a guy from Malta distributed a formula, it's not modern anyway. Check out Degn or something.

was a strontium oxalate based formula and it looked stunning. none of the Degn colored reports really look that good I think I might do some experimenting my self and if I still have my fingers by the end of it hopefully Ill have a good red report

From Hardt:

Potassium perchlorate 54

Strontium oxalate 11.5

Strontium Carbonate 11.5

Magnesium 120-300 mesh 15

Red gum 8

"NOTES: these traditional compositions for colored salutes require handling with great caution."
