KMnO4:MgAl 50:50 makes very fast flash, but it is rather hard to ignite. It takes a blowtorch to get it to go, visco fuse won't do the trick. I'll mill some MgAl tonight and test the very fine powder for differences in ignition.

 

EDIT: I milled some MgAl tonight opening the cylinder evyer 90 minutes to allow slow oxidation, and the results are a 50:50 FP that ignites most vigorously with visco.

 

So a hard to ignite FP with KMnO4 with coarse ( 250-300 mesh?) MgAl, slow burning " Flash powder " with coarse MgAl and KClO4. Wicked FP with fine MgAl and KCO4. Very wicked FP with KMnO4? Maybe I'll test tomorow, as for now I'm tired and need to sleep because itspaint ball all day tomorow.

 

There was a major concern about grinding Al and it becoming pyrophoric. I never had that problem and I reduced big pieces of aluminum foil into 200-300 mesh in two days without opening the cylinder. I wonder if this would be the case with MgAl. I would tend to think not, because of the reactivity of Mg, and MgAl being more dangerous than Al.

Any one got compositions for red and green flares/stars using Ba(NO3)2/Sr(NO3)2 as an oxidizer and Mg as fuel?

I heard for a flare formula but not sure who it's from. But IIRC the composition was

 

50% - Ba/Sr(NO3)2

30% - Mg

20% - Chlorine donor (Parlon or PVC)

 

Moistened wih acetone (Dried with CaCl2) and pressed into tubes.

My stock of black(lift) powder is out and I really need to launch a couple of shells tonight. I have access to most metals but only KNO3 as oxidizer, what comp. can be used to launch 2" shells? I was thinking of KNO3/Al or KNO3/Mg... any suggestions?

And here's the proof...

 

Weak as piss...Hahaha! Yeah right! My .01g scale couldn't pick this amount up yet it made a really deep low boom that echoed through the neighbourhood. Incredible.

 

I just went over a chunk of MgAl in a mortar and pestle for a few minutes and that flash powder was the result. Very impressive. Amazing shit...

There are definately some differences between your FP and mine. The FP I made with m&p MgAl didn't perform like that. Maybe with my milled MgAl and KMnO4 it would reach critical mass. Maybe I'll experiment.

 

EDIT: I tried some 600 mesh MgAl 50:50 with fine KMnO4 and a 1 gram pile wouldn't DDT.

 

Is your MgAl a 50:50 mixture Po? Did you use really pure metals or make it differently?

First of all, you cannot die from smoking weed. To overdose would mean you smoke 70ish% of your body weight in weed. Unless you have lungs of steel that would be near impossible. How he may have died would be not being able to control himself and possibly doing something very stupid (thinking your a bird so you can jump off the 20th story of a building) but I have not heard of anything that intense off of some weed.

About e-matches...would they set off salutes (flash) if it was just bare nichrome between two wires? I have a feeling that the nichrome ignites flash easier than bp and that would save lots of time..

 

Also, where can you find powdered iron without the whole ID process?

Weed does nothing more than speed up the "Darwinian Reduction Process" for individuals that were already well on their way down that path.

Marijuana is not a hallucinogen. It does not invoke people to believe they can fly, float, are god etc.

 

If a person has prexisting conditions, such as severe depression, Marijuana (just as any other controlled substance like alcohol, sleeping pills and painkillers for example) can make this worse.

 

Preitty bogus claim RUUUUUN, not neccesarily by you but by the people who claim that the "Marijuana made him do it" and people that believe that and further spread their ignorance.

 

That being said I don't do drugs anymore quite simply becuase I just don't feel like it....I'm over it.

@ zepplin: I never said the weed killed him I said he was smoking weed and decided to do something that he wouldn't have done if he wasn't high and therefore died.

 

Now, if what Kilo says is true then either the kids parents or the school was trying to cover their butts (very possible) The kid claimed he would only smoke weed and couldn't get anything else if we wanted it. I am pretty sure the kid had some problems before this because he was messed up anyway so maybe the weed only exacerbated the problem.

Thats how I get mine, Its an auto shop that turns brake drums, I have at least 10 lbs of good quality iron from this, all for free....

If he died over spring break, why would the school board release anything pertaining to it? Furthermore, important members may have been in Chicago for the national convention. The school board is hardly qualified to release any information regarding anyone, let alone the death of a student... Either way.

 

And yes, I did see pure mueseum. I even delved into an art mueseum. What a cultured person I am.

 

I also saw blue man group live. Anyone who has that oppertunity should really really go and do that. I know they were in Boston for at least a while (kilo, cough cough), as my brother saw them while he was at MIT...

Yeah... Everybody's heard of that guy. I live in Sweden and we have been fed with stories like that in school, but no one knows who the orange-peeling guy is!
