OneEyeCharlie Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 -Insult them. As result, you can be beaten real good and left bleeding on the street. Or, you can be beaten and then taken to the department. Note to self. Keep wry, acerbic wit in check if ever in Bulgaria
Gunzway Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 You guys shouldn't be so ignorant. You're taking bad experiences with police to be the main conception of all police officers. This is exactly what happens with our hobby. The world looks at some of the fools who buy chemicals and make explosives just so they can cause damage to property or even harm living things, and that's the general view they now have. Hell, it's gotten that bad it's in the minds of many people now days that 'Chemistry = Bad'. It's because of this image for why this hobby is frowned upon. It's even in our movies, where people make explosives for the use of terrorism and other dangerous activities. You can't just honestly say you hate police officers. Yes, I am aware that police officers have been known to be corrupt and frankly be assholes. But like every other occupation in life, you'll have these individuals. It just so happens that being a police officer makes the said individual more powerful and can abuse their powers easier. Thus, statistically speaking there would be more corrupt/'bad' police officers than other occupation as it is definitely a field of work that can be abused. Naturally, people who want to do this would probably look into such a position. You have to be REALLY careful with generalizations you make. I promise you, stereotypes and generalizations will put you in a lot of hot water. The vast majority of terrorists are Muslim, does this mean we should have a natural dislike for people who are Muslim? I think not. If you want to blame anyone or have a yell, it would be the people who make these laws. Like what Jimbo was talking about, it's the politicians who put these laws in place; not the police officers. They merely enforce it. Sure, they could ignore it but IT'S THERE JOB TO ENFORCE THE LAW. While you think of all the corrupt police officers who accept bribes and simply enjoy being malicious, think about the brave ones who put their lives on the line for the public's (ie. you) safety and risk their lives to ensure society doesn't break into anarchy. The people who work overtime to ensure the people who commit heinous crimes are put into a jail cell. They are not a minority, either.
jimbo Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I think most people who want to be police do so with good intentions, its just that how they are trained and brainwashed produces an end product thats the problem.I don't like them, wouldn't trust them or wouldn't even want to know anyone who would want to be a cop.

Gunzway, Your right, I shouldn't generalize cops to be all the same. But you have to realize that these stories are coming from an ex cop and to have a two tier system is not right and not fair.Justice in my eyes has to be fair for all and not favour only those in uniform. I just heard yesterday 800 people are launching a class action lawsuit against the cops from the last G20 summit for beating and arresting them for no reason. They claim they were detained in an old film studio until the summit was over without any food or water.Their civil rights were violated as when they were arrested many of them asked why they were arrested and the cops gave no answer. There used to be a time when cops were respected and liked by all, but that time has passed.
Pretty green flame Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I just heard yesterday 800 people are launching a class action lawsuit against the cops from the last G20 summit for beating and arresting them for no reason. Heh, this reminds me of some student protets we had here about a month or two ago. That night on the news I saw a short interview with one of the protetsotrs, he said he was maced (Pepper sprayed) for no apparent reason. When the reporter asked him what he was doing at the time when he got maced he said "Nothing special, we were just standing there and spitting at the cops, and calling them assholes" (and throwing rocks and bottles at the parliament) This excuse "We didn't do anything" is the oldest one in the book. I seriously doubt that the cops would detain anyone for no apparent reason. I personally respect the police. But I hate the god damn politicians who come up with all the bullshit laws. I mean, in the nea future you'll probably be fined for farting in public or something similar. It pisses me of that politicians will come up with new ways to kick the little guy in the nuts while the big criminals do whatever they like. Though I have to admitt that the police have also changed, in the past if they cought you with a box of firecrackers they'd give you a lecture and take the box of firecrackers from you, and that was it. Now, owning a box of firecrackers is similar to owning a box of semtex and a 1200€ fine (Still, probably more to do with legislation than the people who work for the police)

I'm sure 800 people couldn't be all wrong. It has to be approved by the court which is even more retarded. It's like asking the crown, " Hey, is it ok if we sue you"? As for politicians, I hate them even more. I think they are a bunch of Curva's.
scarbelly Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Yeah guys I agree with you. I definitely should have said something differently, but in the situation for some reason, I just didn't think about all the stuff I know about police and how to deal with them. I've seen that video you posted and I just didn't think about it at the time, and now I'm really regretting it. And guys, while sometimes cops can be corrupt, imagine life without police. It wouldn't work out. While I don't think our justice system is perfect, it sure as hell is better than nothing... For whoever asked, the felonies are possession of a destructive device, and manufacture of explosives without a permit.
optimus Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Heh, I used to have very little respect for the police due to some horrible experiences with them in the past. I now work with them every day and that little respect has turned into zero respect whatsoever - This is UK frontline cops though... The guys from SO-13 and INTERPOL are great guys.
jwitt Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Man scarbelly...they're sticking it to you. It sounds like you've got possible maneuver room though- make sure you pay that lawyer well to keep him happy.
Ventsi Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I was just day dreaming today when I thought of something I did in my autoshop class when I was bored. I took a small piece of paper and folded it up as many times as I could, lets say six. Then I walked over to the 20t hydralic press and proceeded to press the living dead out of the paper, but when I released the pressure I was amased to find that the force of the press had literally fused everysingle layer of the paper to the next. I Ttried unfolding it but it just snapped like a dry pice of wood. I tried this with just about every type of paper I could find and the result was the same. Just though it might be interesting for ya'll. And Scar, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, good luck.
AprenticeChemist Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Hey hows it going doubt anyone remembers me since I haven't been on this forum in like 4 fucking years since the original days when it was first founded. But figured id stop by and see who all is still posting around here, I saw mumbles so I know at least one person from the glory days is around. Figured I'd stop by since im FINALLY getting BACK into pyro again just whipped up my first batch of BP in YEARS! But as they say "he who hath smelt the smoke is Ne'er the same again" You can take the man out of pyrotechnics but you cant take EVER take the pyrotechnics out of the man.
Cookieman Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I agree with everyone so far. Don't talk to the police. You CAN NOT help yourself by doing so, only give them material they can use against you. A law professor's advice (27 minute video) Everything he said was true says a police officer in part 2 (21 minute video) By the way Peret, thanks for posting the links,I saw them both and they were very educational. It's always nice to hear both sides of the story.
TheEskimo Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) I need advice ASAP. Will binding BP with redgum and acetone ruin it? I needed to make a fast batch, so I thought I would speed it up by using acetone as the solvent. I had to use commercial hardwood airfloat in the interests of time, but I managed to mill it for 5 hours. Using my paulownia, bound with dex, and milled for 6 hours yields blazing fast BP. This time, it is really slow...as in really slow. It doesn't go poof, it actually can take a discernable amount of time to burn. I know I measured everything correctly, however. EDIT:: And by fast, I mean being able to be used quickly, not as in fast BP. However, I am astounded at how slow it is. Edited August 20, 2010 by TheEskimo
dagabu Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Go for it! That is Ned Gorski's method for fast BP.
Algenco Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 my guess would be it's the commercial airfloat, are you certain it's completely dry?
optimus Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 How much RG did you use? IIRC >2% will start to affect burn rate somewhat dramatically.
TheEskimo Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Aww snap...I used somewhere in the order of 5-7% RG. I know its dry, cause it's acetone ,and has been in the open shed for abuot 6 hours.
jwitt Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) I inadvertently used 5% RG in a batch - was in a hurry and thought to myself "5% binder" when calculating everything for granulating (RG) and rice hulls (dex). Honestly, I didn't see a difference in lift performance vs. 2% RG. There may be some difference, but you'd probably have to calculate that with baseball tests or similar. I didn't compare open burn though. Edited August 20, 2010 by jwitt
TheEskimo Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Just did a baseball test...got it up maybe 30 feet. Dammit!! Gah, this is pissing me off.
dagabu Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 It sounds like its still wet, put an ounce in a zip-lock and set it in the sun. There is the off chance that you measured the comp wrong too. I have a batch of fast rocket fuel that WILL NOT burn, even with a torch held to it. Same issue...
Mumbles Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 What were you expecting from commercial hardwood BP? Red gum binding wont make BP any faster, just (in theory) prevent it from slowing at all. Use more BP, and try confining the lift bag/cup as much as you can.
TheEskimo Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I wasn't expecting anything on the level of my paulownia BP, but I wasn't expecting utter rubbish, either. I went with the RG/acetone so as to make it dry quickly. I tried another batch, using a different bag of charcoal, and less RG, and it was terrible as well. Ah well, time to make a big fire.
Mumbles Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 There's no need for that. Just save it for polverone in can shells or packing in inserts. That is if the grains aren't too weak, which is my one complaint with RG bound BP.
Ralph Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 mill it for longer I have had perfectly usable results even with malle after milling it for long enough
Pretty green flame Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) I you guys have half an hour to spare, check this out. http://vimeo.com/13969040 Edit 1: 27:05, my life is complete.
