50AE
There were no chlorates. Hey, I'm not ignorant at this point. There was 500 grams of junk comp. It made a beautiful fireball. I'll upload it later. I'm currently milling sodium nitrate. I want to try from curiosity how NaNO3 black powder performs. It's not very humid there (50%) and my NaNO3 is pretty pure (99,5%). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brAkD1HWK-Y - at the end of the video Edited January 17, 2010 by 50AE

Ralph
I knew I had seen the video before...Just couldn't remember where or when. On another note, i took an IQ test as a result of a thread on another forum. I scored 128 on the 'TA^3': http://www.highiqsociety.org/iq_tests/ I'm interested to know what you guys can rank in at. crap i didnt get in i only got 120 need 124 to get in i might re take the test ( i just woke up and stumbled to the computer)
dagabu
I am blade milling a bunch of pot perc for my 1# hybrid rockets. I will be using the hybrid fuel of 65% whistle and 35% black powder. I understand that these will create more then 40# of thrust!!
Mumbles
I wanna know what Mumbles got! Haven't tried it yet...I'm kinda busy. Well, busy enough to not take an IQ test, but not enought to not reply on APC I got a 130 and that includes several that I accidentally didn't answer. I got so involved trying to calculate it out in my head I missed a few of the deadlines for the spatial and math ones.

There were some weird ones that I feel required general knowledge that didn't particularly relate to IQ.

There were some weird ones that I feel required general knowledge that didn't particularly relate to IQ. Not to mention that some of the questions were a bit more biased if you lived in America in terms of general knowledge. I wouldn't take that intelligence quotient test serious at all, a proper IQ test is a lot more in-depth and has modifications depending on your age as well. It also takes into account where you live (they're not going to ask specific history questions from a country that has no relevance to you). Mumbles
I have to admit, that math section was outrageous. I've never seen most of those terms and theorums. I'd hardly consider it general knowledge or in anyway indicative of intelligence by not having a college degree in mathematics.

I did the test again (and did worse) but the questions were different. Everyone's knowledge varies, so they could ace one part and screw up another, doesn't make them any less intelligent IMO. I got a 122... God those memorization ones were killer... I hear you on that!

scarbelly
Maybe you're smarter than you think. The type of intelligence it's supposed to test is more like reasoning abilities rather than specific knowledge (I said supposed to, the "general knowledge" section contradicts me.) EDIT: Also, a question about priming stars: I've got some cut stars that I already have cut and dried. Can I still prime them? If so, is it as simple as dampening them and rolling them around in dry prime? (they're Bleser KP Red Organic #1. Is a prime even necessary?) You can always use a nitrocel based "glue" and any compatable prime. Coarse BP was my usual choice. And the N lacquer will prevent reactions in the short term at least. TrueBluePyro
Yay, I'm 16 today and I went in to get me L's and I got 29/30 on the test and drove home only been driving since I was 5, but it feels better anyway.

Twotails
I've been tweeking around useing PVA as a binder, and sofar can create a light blue star. I think it would be easyer to shift to a red tint, but maby after i fool around with it some more i'll get it to work.(Right now its a very smokey star, Im aiming to reduce the amount of smoke, eather that or with out the copper oxide, these may work as daytime smoke stars...) Im also coating Mg with Saran(Seems like its working, no adverse reaction seems to be present when useing AP in a Aqu binder, still need to run a few tests to check) Its still a free-floweing powder(when dry and re-powderd) I coated 33.3g Mg with 2g of Saran in Acetone, let evaporate, and seems fine, i'll know soon. scarbelly
Thanks Richtee, and happy birthday TBP! I finally got myself a decently sized milling jar (temporarily) I can now mill upwards of 150 grams of Alder charcoal at a time, down to about 95% airfloat in under an hour. (idk how short it is, i just know an hour works well.) The only catch is... It's a plastic mixed nuts jar... After a sum total of 6 hours on the ball mill, the duct tape wrapped around it was burned off, and it was starting to burn through the jar as well... I'm not milling any compositions in this set up, just the components for black powder, so when it bursts (which I'm kind of expecting to happen at some point) nothing too devastating will happen. It is wonderful having a replacement for my 3 lb lortone mill jar, and it mills so much more in so much less time! (plus now I get to use my new brass media )

scarbelly
Oh cool, haha, thanks for the tip. I will be getting a PVC one soon-ish, so this only has to last me about a month. (I can probably find other equivalent jars when it breaks) I was thinking I'd wrap it in some fiberglass reinforced strapping tape (particularly along the raised edges, where wear is at its worst). I might also insert it into another jar for added strength... What do you do with all of the powder when it breaks? Do you keep it or trash it? I clean up what I can w/o keeping any that is on the floor and discard the rest. It doesn't actually break, but cracks and starts to leak a bit...check often as leaks are dangerous. scarbelly
Yeah I'll definitely do that. Thanks very much. Question: How bad of an idea is it to plug up mortars (2" and 3") with plaster of paris? I have loads of the stuff, lots of cardboard tubes, and no wooden plugs, so I figured I'd ask if it was at all feasible. Whenever I shoot, I dig my mortars into sand. And in making the plugs, I would shove nails or long staples through the cardboard tubes and then fill in the void with plaster. The nails would hold in the plaster a bit better. Your thoughts?
