Discovery channel is really getting into fireworks. I like it. For the most part the information is correct too. They like to throw the word 'detonate' around a lot though...

Has anyone noticed that UKPS has been oddly slow lately? Are the english just burned out from Nov. 5th or something?

I'm still around somewhat. I have been doing college pretty much full time. Next semester is 4 chemistry classes with labs... so may be on more or less... I don't know.

Probably not going to PGI next year. Will probably pour more time and money into the local Texas club instead.

Done with finals. Hopefully partying shortly.

I've found it to be pretty slow for quite awhile now. I only drop in there from time to time these days.

IMHO sadly it's been going downhill for a while now. Seems to be slowly turning into a commercial fireworks forum, with less and less interesting discussions, and few quality posts from knowledgeable members.

I have an account there, but I haven't checked it once since I made it. I'm not even tempted. It seemed like a bunch of n00bs and k3wls with the exception of a few very experiences members who really knew what they were doing.

What are your feelings on cars for the teenager? I am 16, going on 17, and I am looking into getting a car. I hopefully will be getting a weekends/evenings job after New Years. I was thinking along the lines of a 4-5000 car, and would get a loan from the parents. Did/do you guys have a car as a teenager, and would you guys view it as a good investment? I would like one, so I can go wherever I please, and the fact that my bus ride is very long; I would like to be able to get up later.

I was a city boy until I went into the military, no need for a car and all of the headaches. I have 4 adult children now that all have bought their own cars after 18, no jobs while in school was our rule. Life sneaks up behind you too fast as it is and I wanted them to not have the stress of a job in school, there was time for that later.

Oh, and I didn't give allowances either, they had to do stuff with me to earn money. Painting, car repair, yard stuff and the like.

I am also 16, going to be 17 very soon, and I have a car. It really allows me a lot more freedom; I can go places when I want to without begging my parents for rides and having to waste their time. Also, if I go somewhere, my parents would have to go home and come back again, doubling the amount of driving necessary, so me driving myself saves gas ;)

Yeah -325. When you get this small, mesh looses it's meaning. It is best suited toward silver streamers/flitter and slow flash.

It's a dark aluminum, but it's not a blackhead. I think this distinction causes quite a few newbies to use their precious flash grade Al in streamers.

There is a thread in the Newbie Section called "Flake Aluminum". I link to a post by Mike Swisher, which is pretty much THE definitive post on aluminums.

The technical documents aren't that helpful either. Honestly, I don't know which one 10890 is. I have a feeling it is 4413. All it says is -325 mesh.

I found a couple places claiming to be 12 micron.

[Edit] Xetap beat me to it. I guess 10890 isn't considered a pyrotechnic material.

Completely random now. I started VLC player a minute ago, and suddenly it has a little Christmas hat on its logo. That's a pretty funny easter egg I think.

Haha, yeah I noticed that too. Completely useless but it's pretty cool nonetheless. I don't think they do it for any other holidays, just Christmas. That reminds me, I better do some Christmas shopping soon.

So my Black powder has been caking in the mill <_< . I understand that this is most likely from one of the components being damp. Which chem do you think contributes most to the dampness? My potassium nitrate has been stored in the bag it came in for maybe 3 months (25 lbs in a twisted plastic bag within a double bagged taped paper bag, within a tied off large plastic bag. This is the first time i've used it.) My charcoal has simply been in a plastic ziploc bag. My sulfur has been in a plastic jar.

When I opened the KNO3, it was pretty clumpy, but broke up pretty easily. Anyways, do you think that the potassium nitrate was likely just damp beforehand (I got it from a pottery supplier) or that it absorbed moisture through it's packing? Or is it more likely to be the charcoal or sulfur?

I'm really not a fan of drying meal powder under a lamp... I'd love to stop the problem at its roots.

Dry the nitrate for sure. If you feel safe with it throw it in the kitchen oven for an hour or so at 200*F , same with the charcoal, however I wouldn't recommend doing it in the same oven you use to cook food. It will make it smell terrible.
