RUUUUUN Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) However by responding you have proven that you are weird enough to read my posts; that's probably not to bright. Considering all the answering I do in the HE section, it would probably benefit you greatly to not acknowledge that I am even a member of this society. It is the correct number of U's Ventsi: I supposed the piece of pipe just "randomly" came up atwix you are your friend as well eh? Edited July 15, 2009 by RUUUUUN
Ventsi Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Haha, lol. A field cannon or a air cannon has been a goal of mine/ours for a while .I personaly think a BP cannon shooting solid cement cylinders at 500mph at anything is an incredibly fun expirience , good way to vent losing your job, or not getting one. I just wanted to be sure that the cannon wouldn't end up venting on us I guess I need to start looking for a pipe for the main gun.
deadman Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 RUUUUUN I'm not sure if I entirely get your post, but I can say it is one of the few times I can actually say I laughed out loud so, lol. As far as your cannon goes ventsi I applaud you. I wish I had the testicular fortitude to go through with such a largescale project, but I'm just gonna have to wait until you post video's of that bad boy to be able to witness such a device. Kind of a side note, I know "they" say pneumatic is the way to go, but I prefer combustion cannons.
RUUUUUN Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 "good way to vent losing your job, or not getting one." *under breath* or a great way to lose your job.....
Mumbles Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I have a big presentation, and a meeting with one of the executives the week of convention, so I really cannot attend. I'm out of town the next week, so I can't really make up the time.
Ventsi Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Deadman: Its peobably gping to look like it was made out of large scale K-NEX, I freaking wish I had the tools necesary to make a nice looking replica... sigh. It's mostly going to be made to work and be safe , I'm not going for looks , altough I might do a bit of MythBusters style *artwork* on it. I'm thinking somewhere around 1.5" ~ 12" long[Or the appropriate lenght] , the tube, as thick as I can buy it localy and some sort of detachable stand. It's going to be ugly, but safe and functional ,I hope. RUUUUUN: Chill out , I'm a kid; 16 to be exact. I might not know what I'm doing all the way but I'm being safe about it . I have adults with expirience following me along the way , and I sortof have a place where to shoot this type of stuff. I'm not going around parks and schools shooting a 1/2lb field cannon at computer monitors. I probably sound PO'd and I am , sorry for dumping it on you guys. PS: Can those tiny 3lb tumblers really turn out 200g BP Mumbles ? I want to take your word for it but just they seem so tiny, I would have thought 100g was the absolute maximum they could handle?
Pyrohawk Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Ventsi..... they can handle 200g pretty well. Actually you can do even more than that fairly comfortably but the best result comes from about 200g. Mumbles and I use the same set up with the HF tumbler and .50 media.
deadman Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 The harbor freight tumbler was the first one I got and I still use the barrell on my new mill. I always make 200 gram batches. Sorry to hear that mumbles. I really need stop reading these posts after I have been drinking. For some reason I thought your cannon was something designed to shoot cylinder blocks. Hence the fortitude comment. Good luck and remember functionality is always more important than cosmetics.
peedee Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Just saying hi from the UK. Been lurking and learning for a long time and finally decided to register.
RUUUUUN Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 chill out? I was attempting to make a joke.... When you said you were making a cannon, I remembered an author named Patrick F. McManus. McManus wrote a story about him and a buddy making a black powder cannon out of some sewer pipe.... They brought it out to the local golf course, yelled fore, and the cannon exploded because they had packed a croquet ball to tightly into the pipe.... LOL what they did was 100% safe... up until the cannon exploded....
Swede Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 We've all seen goofy or stupid videos with fireworks - this one is pretty clever and a lot of fun to watch. This guy took a foam RC airplane and weaponized it with 1.4g. The cool part is that he has a video camera in the airplane. When the tiny rockets are launched, it looks a lot like the real deal, and when his friends launch shells AT the airplane, and the airplane flies through the flak bursts, it also looks fairly real, except for the colors. Probably 2 or 3 laws are being broken, but in the grand scheme of "stupidity with fireworks" this one isn't bad at all. Weaponized RC airplane
TrueBluePyro Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 haha, that is awesome, it would be really cool to see more fireworks like that, not being shot from a plane but getting airal video of them that close
TrueBluePyro Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 hmm, there are organisations such as PGI as far I know there are a few others, are there any that are close to LA (Los Angeles)?
FrankRizzo Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 TBP, The Republik of California is not known to be very fireworks friendly. There are a clubs in Arizona and Texas, but none that I know of in Cali.
flying fish Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 So quick question: When you are looking for that nice sparkeling tail to add to charcoal stars, which mesh size of Ti would you add?
firetech Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Well, it depends on the hang time you want. I use 145-325 mesh spherical and add 5%. It looks great with tigertail.
Swede Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 CMC gum - I'm using it for more stuff, and as a binder it is great, but the batch I bought, even after milling, has a crapload of tiny, hard nuggets in it that did not get ground up at all. It's almost as if the nuggets are rubbery and resist grinding. The CMC gum I have looks a bit like pale beach sand with weird, colored impurities. Can anyone recommend a source of pure CMC gum, a fine powder that I can mill or screen right into comps better than this crappy eBay stuff? How about regular wallpaper paste?

I really wish I would have picked up a bag of wallpaper paste when it was still at Home Depot. They've discontinued wallpaper for most of there stores. I actually worked in the department though and thought about it for a long time. Side note. I guess since this is a random thread. At Home Depot (Lowe's probably too)in the window treatment area there is a station to cut roller shades. They have very thick parallel would cardboard tubes in them. These are cut to size at the store and the remnant is usually just stuck in a garbage pale by the cutting machine. It's always nice for a quick check. Then in the flooring area there are "runners". These come with 4" ID tubes that vary from 1/32" walls to 3/8" walls. Spiral wound usually for the thick ones, but ridiculously strong. Employees see them as trash and don't care if you take them away. These are usually about 3 feet long. Edited July 20, 2009 by deadman
flying fish Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Organic chem is already killing me after the 3rd class! I'm debating whether I should stay in it, or if I should just convince my department head to let me take a blow-off class in its place (like introductory biology, lol).
Swede Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Organic chem is already killing me after the 3rd class! I'm debating whether I should stay in it, or if I should just convince my department head to let me take a blow-off class in its place (like introductory biology, lol). Do not be a weak, girlie-man! Organic separates the men from the boys. Until you get to P-chem. And Quantum Mechanics. The secret to organic is raw memorization and nomenclature. Flash cards help. Organic lab was my favorite by far. Taking molecules apart and rebuilding them into what you want is really pretty cool.
flying fish Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I can do the memorization thing, but my chemistry background is WEAK (and I do regret this...wish I woulda taken more chem classes). I'm a physics undergrad on my last semester, and I needed a chemistry class to gradumatate. The physics dept head told me that I could take any class related to chemistry...he probably would have let me take a much easier class if I could find one. Unfortunately the chem dept in my school is small, and they only offer the classes that THEIR students need, which aparently this semester is only organic 1. So yeah, I got stuck in a class that which I don't really have the background for (only have taken gen chem 1). But I think I've decided to go with it. If I survive, I'll wear it as a "badge of honor", lol. If not, I'll just take Gen chem II at a community college and transfer it in to meet my degree requirements...

How about regular wallpaper paste? I thought I got my last lb from Netrition, but I can't find it on their site. Are you a Passfire member? A Vendor over there was selling 5 lb lots for $1.25/lb. PM me if you want more info.
RUUUUUN Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) BUMP..... How did the random thread die!?!?!? too many people opening new threads for stupid questions that whould be answered in the random thread, I wager....(pyroguide, organic chem, "match crackers"(uuuhhh yeah...) *EDIT* rogue sci..) Edited July 31, 2009 by RUUUUUN
Mumbles Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 It's fine. I kind of like the separe threads for things like that. Things get lost too easily here.
flying fish Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I only made o chem as a new thread so that I could consolidate all of my bitching, and asking-you-do-my-homework-for-me into one, annoying thread. Prolly not that healthy for the random thread though. But neither is smoking... I promise I won't bring the thread back up....until I have another crisis moment (like before every single test and quiz).
