Wohoo

I just got back from a shopping spree [20 buck spent ?]

I found some Gummed kraft from a craft store which also suplied gum arabic but at $14 4oz ... F*** that

I got some new screens and some new burst charge material [some kind of seed]

Unfortunatelly they use to supply strontium salts.[bummer]

Anyway ,does anyone have a use for Calcium carbonate?

I have ~40 grams of the stuff.

Ah, calcium carbonate, also known as chalk. Not a whole lot of pyro uses, although it could be used for orangey yellow stars.

Adhesive - Fireproof - Degn, Pyrotechnic Adhesive

Go-Getters Orange

Orange Metallic Fueled

Veline Orange

Orange Organic Fueled

Baechle System 5: Orange

Perigrin #1

Perigrin #2

Perigrin #3

Orange Strobe

Meinhart Orange

Pink Organic Fueled

Baechle System 4: Pink

Red Organic Fueled

Baechle System 5: Salmon

What do you like the look of? : )

I believe Veline uses it in his Purple also.

By special request I blew up a giant zuchini, I used 10g of 70:30 KClO4:325 bright flake Al flash powder in a 20mm tube, there are a few things which have me baffled. One is the fact that there are silver splatters on everything, allowing me to beleive not all the flash ignited, how is this possible? also you can see in the slow slow motion (37s) that there is a purple haze infront of the camera just before it explodes... What is this? I thought it could be energy or infra-red being picked up only by the camera? Any ideas?

Oh and by the way I know this was a bit kewlish but I have to do something to pass the time during summer.

Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS_xCwdtHC4

My theory is that it's something like lens flare, the camera scans the CCD progressively (more than likely, anyways) and the explosion was at just the right stage after scanning the middle of the screen (mr whale) to have lens flare from the IR/light emitted by the flash.

If you used 325 flake in such a small salute, you'd need to mix them very very well. If it's the pasty sort of flake, you might even have to screen it together. The best way to do that would probably to screen in maybe half of the perc, then diaper in the rest of the perc. That would make the screened comp free flowing, without it being nearly so energetic as the full-on flash. It would likely still burn, though it would be much more difficult to light. The stearin in bright flake tends to make it less sensitive to friction than dark flake, but it should still be treated with respect.

You guys should be sending a firestorm of hatred towards that organization. George Orwell would be proud. Pretty soon, all you'll be able to view are "Big Brother" videos... and your web cam will spy on you.

Find the wanker politician who thought it up and spray 101 on his door :)

Apparently the AMCA blacklist has been leaked onto wikileaks which is great news, I'm told there are plenty of completely innocent sites listed.

I'm back. It was awesome.

The snowboarding was nice. I got better. It was mostly ice, no fresh powder, but still fun.

Was low on money. Got a used teflon beaker that looks about 800ml, a mercury thermometer that goes up to 400C (?!), and some german gas mask and filter, and several pounds of thick aluminum scrap all for around $60. Would have been more expensive but the guy liked me as I seemed to be the only person thus far to correctly identify the teflon beaker. All the other people who wanted to buy it just wanted to mix paint in it lol. I also spent like 2 straight hours walking around in there and brought another guy with me who ended up buying some pretty damn amazing shit... Though I won't say much more than that. :ninja:

I took a ton of pictures and something like 40 minutes of straight video walking around looking at stuff. However theres a lot there that I want to save up money for and road trip back to get at some point. So it might be quite a while until I get all the pics and video uploaded somewhere.

Also the Bradbury science museum in los alamos is pretty cool, you can play around with a modern geiger counter and radioactive samples... like old fiesta ware plates, thoriated lantern mantles, smoke detectors, and some other things like that. Really makes me want to buy a meter. I would have gotten one of the old ones from the surplus store, but as those were pretty much the most highly sought items they were the most expensive.

Also read "Gunpowder: The history of the explosive that changed the world" by Jack Kelly on the drive back.

So yeah... if/when I get more pocket money... Road trip.

Congrats, Yankie! I need to get off my ass and put some shells together, and put on a small show.

Do you guys remember the Skylighter "1/2 off" sale? I place my order in February; it still hasn't arrived. Anybody get their stuff yet?

Did you have any backordered items? They sent out e-mails for it and you had to let them know if you wanted to wait, or have it all shipped together. That being said, I let them know to ship my stuff now and ship the backordered stuff in May, but haven't gotten anything yet.

I'm writing up my essay for the UMR explosives camp, and I just need some more ideas for careers in the application of explosives. Any suggestions?

None of my stuff was back-ordered and they *just* notified me that USPS picked up my shipment on Friday. Slooowwww...but as long as it gets here, I suppose. My smile at scoring super fast paper fuse for $7.50/100ft. turned to a bemused smirk when I picked up another 1k ft. at Passfire for $4.50/100 ft. ...so much for the "deal" at Skylighter.

At least I'll have BM for the next 2-3 years and won't have to make any....that's reason to smile!

Yankie: What are you firing from those berocca tubes? are they just little mines?

Some of those paper tubes look fairly flimsy (the 6 in the red crate), are they 3"? Have you had any problems with them failing? Do you reuse them?

They are mines yes, they can withstand surprising amounts of pressure, I once put a comet in one that had to be forced in with all my weight, I thought it was sure to blow, but nope still intact. The mines did fall over for the last 4 or 5 shots, mainly due to the hammer breaking when I was trying to peg it into the ground. oh well no harm done. The tubes seem to hold up pretty well, thats the second time I have fired from them and still no problems. Yes they are 3", I only fire balls from the thin ones, thick ones are for cans.

Yuk, I hate making BM/QM. I keep thinking about automating it, maybe making one of those sticky-match machines or something. A while back, I bought some of the super-fast yellow vis-quick from cannonfuse, and was impressed with it. It's not QM, but for small 2" shells and such, it's handy stuff, albeit a bit expensive.

Vis-quick

Weird, I don't even remember what I ordered from Skylighter anymore! It'll be like X-mas. :P

I found this news article on Yahoo news "CDC: Rocket fuel chemical found in baby formula"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090403/ap_on_...ula_perchlorate

I was wondering if this is the first step in the Obama administration to limit access to certain chemicals. Several of the statements in the story gave me food for thought.

"The agency issued a statement Friday saying perchlorate exposure is a serious issue and "a top priority" for EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. EPA officials expect to announce a decision soon about future steps in dealing with the chemical."

Is this my normal paranoid reaction to authority or do you think this is something to be cocerned about?

Anyone here a amateur radio operator?

If so, what do you do per say? I was getting blasted by one of them today for going along with the idea of someone tinkering with a portable radio to change the frequency and it got me thinking as to what exactly they do with their fancy radios. It sounds like a giant lonely vent channel or IRC room to me.

Illegal this, illegal that, I couldnt care less if some dodgy device I made is dumping radiation in their band :)
