Mumbles Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 .....Corey reaction? It sounds like some kid named Corey invented it to describe any difficult reaction on a test! "Hmm, I'm supposed to substitute those two hydroxyl groups with a ketone and an aldehyde? I must use the Corey reaction! yeah, that's it!" .... Oh man swede. You joke now, but you just described one of the famous Corey reactions. http://www.organic-chemistry.org/namedreac...-oxidation.shtm
Richtee Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Oh man swede. You joke now, but you just described one of the famous Corey reactions. http://www.organic-chemistry.org/namedreac...-oxidation.shtmLookie alla weird pictures... Sigh. Well, I guess we all got our niches eh? ;{)
asilentbob Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) So yeah EXCITED. Going to go snowboarding in New Mexico next week... dunno where... BUT we are going to be going to Los Alamos for a day or so. They don't give tours of the labs anymore... BUT there is a museum that should be bad-ass... AND there is a really cool cold war era AWESOMENESS store, the black hole... Anyone know anything else awesome in Los Alamos or around there? EDIT:Apparently Ed Grothus, the owner of the store passed away February 13, 2009. So recent! Damn! I really wanted to meet him. Stores still up and running though. And apparently I'm going to need to take more money than I previously thought... And I might want to see about nearby used book stores. Edited March 9, 2009 by asilentbob

I just made that up as a goofy example, and there it is! Mike, excellent job! Very clever to use the toolbox to tote the heavy batteries. Homemade e-matches is a cool pursuit that could bear fruit, as pre-made commercial e-matches are for licensed folk only, IIRC.
TheSidewinder Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 ..... BUT we are going to be going to Los Alamos for a day or so..... Too bad you aren't going to be there in August. They open the Trinity site to the public one day each year, on the anniversary of the first atomic bomb test. You can still see "Trinitite", the melted Silica/fissile material, that covered the desert floor after the test. You aren't allowed to take samples of it anymore, though, so existing samples are getting more valuable every year.

Nice to see you around to. The kids are doing great (all three of them, been a busy boy). I don't really remember what the MEKP incident would be since I've never made MEKP (no access to MEK), but if you wish to remind me, go right ahead. Edited March 13, 2009 by andyboy
WarezWally Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Looks like our internet freedoms are under threat once again: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1161107 In short, a average internet user critical of internet filtering decided to test how fucked up our country is and submitted a anti-abortion website to the AMCA (which maintains a blocklist which all ISP's must follow) and it became blocked. Then the AMCA based on this false 'submission' is threatening to fine one of the largest forums in the county (200K+ users). The link is on the wiki page, if I were to post it on my blog I could be in a lot of trouble. Sounds fucked up to me....
asilentbob Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 It is Friday the 13th. No one make explosives today. Mkay? That is all.
Swede Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Looks like our internet freedoms are under threat once again:You guys should be sending a firestorm of hatred towards that organization. George Orwell would be proud. Pretty soon, all you'll be able to view are "Big Brother" videos... and your web cam will spy on you.
