asilentbob Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 On the speed camera system... check this out: In Canada of all places. Merry X-mas all!
Yankie Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Hmmm...no takers on the giant ballmill BP deathstar? Oh well, I thought it was funny. Well I thought it was funny, probably posted too close to christmas day so everyone is in the christmas spirit, rather than OMFG WTF is with that huge star spirit. Well I got some more ram for my poota, and money to spend on pyro so I am happy.
Richtee Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 On the speed camera system... check this out: In Canada of all places. Merry X-mas all! It was only a matter of time. Used to be big brother was something you looked up to eh.
LGM Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I hope everyone here on the forums had a very merry Christmas, and my wishes extend to all your new year's festivities. I got a double barreled rock tumbler and one hundred dollars that will soon be heading the direction of Northstar, so I'll finally be able to really delve into the hobby soon. Once again, have a happy and safe (as possible) new years!
WarezWally Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Went to work today, pissed off at the amount of customers there (we dont have 'sales' or anything like that after Christmas, a few things went up infact) seeing as its boxing day and everyone should be home drunk on the couch watching the cricked. But alas, I managed to stand around for a few hours earing double time and a half while talking away about god knows what. The boss (I have a few on many levels), well one of them ordered pizza so that was good There was one customer who was mighty pissed off with the multiple answers he got from everyone, not my problem as he was very impressed with me because I helped his very hot wife out, his complaint letter wont mention me Still, a good day overall. Wish most of them were like it. Nothing like an easy day at work helping the odd customer out with their timber based needs /Heineken is good
Brakkie Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 WarezWally: I know exactly what you mean. I work in a supermarket at the vegatable department where I'm boss over the people working at that time. I get so sick and tired of stupid customers. I mean I'm 19 years old and people ask me how to prepair deer or wild boar? I mean I'm far from stupid and love being in the kitchen but isn't it your own responsibility to know how to prepair the meat you're serving? Sometimes you just wanna take out a nice .45 and shoot them one by one! I hope everyone had a nice christmas and now it's time for all of us to get our asses in our workshops and start preparing for that one day of the year where we can execute our hobby legally (more or less).
WarezWally Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Sometimes you just wanna take out a nice .45 and shoot them one by one! There is one guy at work, really bright and happy on the outside to the customers but everyone knows if someones going to go shoot up the place its going to be him. Customers think hes on ecstasy half the time Really nice bloke though
Richtee Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I mean I'm 19 years old and people ask me how to prepair deer or wild boar? Refer them to me :{) I even take credit cards! I'll be cheaper than wasting that expensive hunting trip! LOL!
Swede Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Brakkie, my asparagus in Bernaise suace is coming up timid... any suggestions on spices?
OneEyeCharlie Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 <---- Stepping in as Brakkie's proxy Up the level of tarragon and, even though it's a Bearnaise rather than a Hollandaise, add a bit of lemon zest.

LOL I don't even know what bearnaise sauce is! I was just trying to yank Brakkie's chain! It's amazing, in my job as well (pilot), people ask the weirdest questions. I'll be in the airport at Dallas, reading a book, and someone will come up out of the blue and ask me if the Vancouver flight is on time. "Uhh, yes." Or technical questions - "Can you land if a wing falls off." Always the answer, "Easily." What I don't say is how hard or destructive (as in pieces of aluminum no larger than Eckhart flake) the "landing" is. Hmm... you can make a LOT of flash from the aluminum from a 747. A LOT.
Frozentech Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Hmm... you can make a LOT of flash from the aluminum from a 747. A LOT. I bet ! oskarchem Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Merry Christmas! I know it's a bit late, but I've been in Ireland where the net connection is pretty slow. What type license do you have Swede? Anyway, I was flying to and back to Ireland on Ryanair (a low cost European company), any how, I really don't know where these guys learn to fly. At the landing in Dublin, I estimated the vertical speed to be something like -500 to -700 ft/mn when he touched the runway, no flare at all... On the return to France we bounced twice...
asilentbob Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Got xbox live for 360, add me "Zuloo37"... Will mostly be playing Halo3 until I get more games. As for pyro related stuff.... I'm working on a massive 2x4 shelf for my room to get alot of stuff off the ground... I'm planning for a good 1/5th of it to be pyro books, papers, and stuff like that. Going to look at used books soon. See if I can find some more awesome.
rev.redneck Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I disassembled a Reverse osmosis filter cartridge today and noticed a roll of very fine screen. Any ideas as to what mesh that might be? It produced very fine charcoal, thats what I had closest at the time. Thanks
LGM Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I have no clue on the mesh size of the screen, and I'm not sure anyone would without being able to test it. If you want an idea of what it is, then run different materials with a known mesh size through it to see what the threshold is for what can't fit through. If you have access to a microscope, that would probably help you out a lot.
BPinthemorning Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 This is off topic, but what should I use for a chlorate based star prime? All the primes I've seen contain sulfur...
LGM Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I'm not sure many chlorate stars need a prime, but the veline prime doesn't have any sulfur in it. Granulated H3 would probably work fine as well.
tentacles Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 BP: It's standard practice in Malta to prime chlorate stars with meal. Otherwise you can use a chlorate, or perchlorate based prime without sulfur..
Swede Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Frozentech, those are SHOCKING amounts of titanium. Trying to buy surplus sheet Ti off eBay makes you realize how FREAKISHLY expensive it is compared to aluminum. Boeing and Airbus are probably the two largest consumers of Ti in the world. A simple 4' X 8' sheet costs thousands and thousands of $$. Oskarchem, I have an ATP license with endorsements for 737, 757, 767, 777, MD-11. I've been an airline guy for 17 years, and would like nothing more than to keep my feet on the ground for a while. Flying for fun (which you are doing) is a blast. Flying for pay is a different world entirely. As for your Ryanair guys, you get what skills you pay for. There is a reason Ryanair is a deep discount airline!
Swede Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Sorry to keep hogging this thread... odd request. I have some 2:1 teflon heat shrink tube that is crazy stuff. It shrinks... but 5% more heat, and it chars. There's a very narrow window to make the stuff shrink evenly. A regular heat gun won't do jack. You need to use a propane torch, and be VERY careful. Burning PTFE = dangerous fumes. The PTFE milky color turns clear; then, the shrinking begins. But if not done correctly, it is very uneven. This is very hard to do well. What I'm trying to do... apply this stuff over 3/4" Cu pipe for an immersion heater. If anyone has used this stuff, hints are appreciated.
chicagofireworks Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I just got Cannonfuse's fast and furious yellow visco fuse, fastest stuff I have ever seen... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S263yv3FI0 Here is a video of me lighting maybe 15-20" of it. EASILY several times faster than artillery fuse.

Burning PTFE = dangerous fumes. Would it be feasable to do it in your bench furnace? What kind of heatgun do you have, all of the ones I've used typically don't even approach the rated temperature, the best one so far is the one I use currently, digital thermostatically controlled up to "550C" which means about 520C at the tip.. (in 50C increments) I had one rated for "550C" that put out almost 430C if you blocked the vents enough to burn out the element.
